For a fun little project I heat stippled the grips on my personal hi-point. It was my first attempt at heat stippling but I'm quite pleased with the result. The grips are much "grippier" now.

I used a cheap canadian tire soldering iron. I replaced the tip with a brass screw. The screw was a round head slotted. I used a dremel to cut an additional slot in the screw. Then I used a small file to groove out the slots a bit.

I taped off everywhere my hand does not make contact. For the stippling, I just touched the hot screw onto the plastic for a second (or less). It melts the plastic and puts 4 little stipples. Repeat a million times. The actual stippling time was probably about half an hour. I then used a razer blade to shave down the peaks a bit. The net result is a very grippy surface.

While I was at it I also polished the beam on the slide and contoured the trigger guard.

A tip of the hat to both KO and Stevo for very nicely executed mods.

But I gotta stand with the "But it's still a HiPoint and it's fugly as hell" gang. I don't care HOW you dress 'er up KO, I'm not going out on a date with one.... :D

I'm trying to figure out why your hand doesn't make contact with that portion of the grip on the left side????

Where my fingertips end? It'd be a pretty small grip if you could make contact 360* around it. My hand and fingers aint small, that's just where the contact ends.

Rename thread to "How to polish a turd"
Just kidding ;)

Have to wait til x-mas to get my next gun.
