Heat stippling polymer guns?

The sandpaper is wearing out on my Glock's grip and I was thinking about doing this...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sID21eMX4Lw

Has anybody done it? Any tips, regrets? How does it compare to the grip tape?

I did it to my hi-point. It's quite grippy now. The shape of the solder tip determines the shape of the stippling. The texture on mine is quite random, but it feels nice to hold and I like the look.

I stippled my Glock and the front strap strap of my 1911.( I didn't use the heat method
though) works great and I prefer it.

Can't you just replace the grip with skateboard grip tape?

I have griptape and I like it but I just want a more permanent solution.
And if done right it ends up looking cool.

it looks and feels like crap. I got stuck with a Glock that had a "octopus sucker" job done to it, and I wasn't pleased. Thankfully, a CGN'er with more patience than me gave me a fair trade for it.
