Heated vests and/or jackets??? Which one??? Recommendations please!!!

My hunting partners used the Ororo battery operated heated vest from Amazon.ca and love it. We bought one for my daughter in the Yukon and she loves hers, only complaint is can be too warm!

I have just ordered a Tidwe battery operated vest last week from Amazon.ca for an upcoming deer hunt for same issues OP is dealing with. It has yet to arrive and will post back on this forum once I receive it.

Mine arrived today, takes a little longer to get to locations further north.

https://www.amazon.ca/TIDEWE-Mens-L...&sprefix=tidwe+vest,aps,242&sr=8-3&th=1&psc=1

Have it at work tonight as thermostat goes into reduced heat mode. So far impressed with build, had it on low when was out scraping crap off the truck. Real test will be next week during the deer hunt.

I usually wear a 2x everything and even with a summer weight loss, this is form fitting. Probably good for heat retention but I like my clothes a little bit big so would recommend going up a size if you do as well.

when buying heated gear for motorcycle it was recommended to go a size down so the warming garment was tight to the body for effectiveness’

When I started looking at these vests, I was overwhelmed with the number of choices & could not sort heads from tails LOL...

So, I broke it down to:
(1) Choosing 7.4v OVER 5v because the 7.4v vests have larger heating areas/pads.
(2) Medium battery size. The largest I saw was 30,000mAh which folks noted as being TOO BIG to be carried comfortably, and the smallest was ~5,000mAh... The battery for the vest I chose was 16,000 and a reasonable size to carry.

Outside of that, there seems to be so many manufacturers of these vests online that it's hard to decide which one to grab.

I bought the milwaukee heated jacket for work, but it was the wrong choice as it needs to be an under layer.... Should have got the hoodie. It is a real nice jacket though.

I got the Tidewe vest yesterday. I would suggest sizing up one if ordering.

Battery is slow charging but no big deal. Still need to give it a good try out.

Lenz heated gear is awesome.

So far I have the socks, and will likely get more.

Other than that I have a makita heated vest/jacket which is nice, but the tool batteries are bulky..

So I bought just the large USB heated pads and heated my hunting chair.... perfect.

I received the Milwaukee heated hoodie for my birthday and tried it out today. It was a mild day and I spent the morning hiking around checking a few remote trail cameras and got a little sweaty. At about 2pm I got to a stand and sat until dark. I turned the heat on at about 2:30 and it definitely made the sit more enjoyable as it got down near zero. Without the hoodie it would have been real chilly in damp clothes.

It came with the charger and one M12 CP 2.0 battery. I picked up a couple more of the same batteries at KMS Tools on sale for $40 each. I left the heat on until 7 pm and it was still going strong on one battery set to medium. The 3 batteries should be good for a full day sit and two might do it.

Obviously we are normally hunting in minus temperatures for highs in Alberta so not much of a test yet. I do believe it will be a nice addition from what I experienced today.

Only negative for me is the placement of the rear heat. It is higher on the back. There may be some reasoning for this but I would enjoy the heat more on my lower back.

So, I'm rethinking my cheap heated socks and gloves from Amazon after what happened on Tuesday.
I had bought a pair of heated socks from Amazon same as mine for my father in law. He loved them but couldn't charge them at my cabin in the bush, bought a spare set. We all went out on opening day and he went home, plugged them in for the night to be ready for next morning.
It was raining so he shut off his alarm that morning and went back to sleep. He never heard the smoke alarms but his wife did and woke him up. They just made it out in time. Lost everything. Bluing destroyed on his guns, clothes, furniture, everything has smoke damage. Only thing left of his crossbow is the strans from the fiberglass limbs. Everything in the furnace room is melted ,only thing plugged in that room was the batteries. He and the fire captain figured that's what started it.
They said they are seeing more fires from these cheap lithium batteries from Amazon/ebay/wish and cables/extension cords from the dollar stores.......... I even have a couple of knock off milwaulkee batteries from Amazon I might get rid of.
When he was talking to them, he mentioned that "the price was right" on this stuff, they answered "what is your life worth".
I'm getting rid of the couple of cheap Amazon ones I have and rethinking it, m8ght just go back to hot packs.
Just a friendly warning to all.

^^^ All lithium batteries are risky while being charged and you have to be careful not to leave them charging when you're not present. I guess that would apply double to the less expensive ones found in heated garments and I have heard of people with e-bikes losing their homes to charging the batteries.

I do recommend that anyone ordering the heated vest Jay mentions in the OP copy and paste his link in order to access A-maz-on. When I first opened my amazingcon account and then used it I got a price of $140 and a 'coupon' offer for $15 off, when I looked at a more expensive vest they recommended and then went back to Jay's vest, the coupon was gone. I said screw you guys but went back the next day and without first opening my own account, used Jay's link in an address box to get to the vest, the price had not only dropped to $130 BUT ALSO there was a coupon offer of $35 off. Needless to say, I went for that price. (I'm rounding up all the stupid .99 cent prices.)

It's AI that's at work here, algorithms and the whole works, I've known for years that amazingcon charts what you want and what you're usually willing to pay along some sort of pricing grid from least to most; I don't fully understand it but what I did persuaded their bot to give me what is probably close to the very best deal available. And I'm being coy about naming them here because I know that like every company, they're always going to be scanning every site possible to see what people are saying about them

I generally wear wool, but this heated vest is a game changer. I wore it this afternoon to sit for deer for 3 hours. It was drizzling and 2C... I was NOT cold.

I ran the vest at low, then medium, then high to see what it was like. When I got home I checked the battery & it was at 3/4's charge.

Very happy with this purchase so far!

glad to hear you were not cold with +2c. cant imagine the outfit you will need to hunt bison or ice fishing in the yukon ...

If you copy the amazon link into camelcamelcamel.com it will show you the price trends as they go up and down based on demand and supply. You can set alerts to get an email if the price drops below a certain point

May or may not work for you but I use Milwaukee hoody, mostly for fishing. M12 batts. Got a few M12 Milky power tools too, used mainly for auto mechanics.

Good tip!

Got my vest, the battery is the size of an average smart phone but a fair bit heavier and after a couple of hours is still charging. I mention that because review on Amazon makes it sound like it must be the size of an old time phone book or something, the felt weight will disappear when worn. It appears to be originally intended as a reserve power bank for cell phones, can still be used for that of course, and to have been made in England.

Nice vest, warm on its own but great with the battery. I'll save it for the end of the day hunts and for those cold cold mornings at single digit o'clock when the house is still warming up, lol. One small tip, when charging don't wait for the battery stop blinking, it seems that's not how it works. Unplug and if you get straight LEDs, you're good to go. Thanks again Jay for the tip, and if perchance the battery goes, I mean hell this was half price over Costco for pete's sake, with the standard USB hookup I bet I can find a similar one that'll work too.
