I have a friend that has a Savage Axis 22-250 and asked me to do some reloading for him and I was wondering what the heaviest bullet that will accurately shoot through a 1-12 ROT barrel?

Don`t know, but what I do know is: My Savage Axis 22-250 absolutely loves the Hornady 55gr V-max`s and is very accurate.

60 grain Sierra HP. Have had excellent accuracy with IMR 4064, 4895, and 4320 in the 33 to 34 grain range using the accuracy loads from Nosler. Rifle is a Remington 700V with a 1 in 14 twist.

Berger lists 64g varmint for the 12 twist, I haven't found any yet to try.
The 60g bergers over varget or rl15 shoot well out of my Savage 12 ..

This is a seat test sheet for the 60g berger out of the Savage 12 @ 100yds. I've tried 60g vmax but not as accurate. I also shoot 55gvmax and 52g bergers and both have been accurate out to 400yds. still have to tune the 60's out to 400 thernmove out from there.

Its not so much about weight as about the length of your bullet. I loaded up some 53 gr TSXs for a fellow with a 1:12 .22-250 and the holes in the paper were badly yawed and the group was about 6" at 100. Back to moderate loads with 55 gr Corelokts, so they wouldn't blow up on caribou and back came the round holes and good accuracy. After that I couldn't convince him to try 70 gr Speers.
