Hey guys,

I'm interested in a .270 and am wondering what the heaviest bullets (for reloading) available are. If I got the rifle, I would be using it mostly for deer, but also for moose. Opinions on and or experiences with the best bullets available vs. factory ammunition would be appreciated.

cheers, Stefan

140gr Accubonds are more than enough to take a deer, moose, elk, bear. Thats all I use in my reloads for 270WSM. I believe Nosler has a 160gr bullet thoug - but not as an Accubond.

For factory - Winchester Supreme 140gr Accubonds or the 150gr XP3's would be suffice. In Federal ammo, 140gr TSX or 140gr Accubonds.

Hope this helps.

I think Mighty Peace is correct, the 160 gr Partition is the heaviest commonly available bullet available. IIRC though, some companies used to make 170 and 180 gr .277 bullets, but I have never seen any around here.

no, they dont make the 'original' soft points anymore, although there may be some still kicking around on shelves in gun stores...if memory serves me correct I think I saw some .277" 180gr barnes on the shelf of p&d in edmonton last febuary...

140's will do nicely for moose and deer. So will a 130. Nosler does make a 160 Partition though. Barnes did make a 180, but not now.

270 round

Hi there,
I was looking for a great all around big game load for my 270. A fellow gunnuter suggested I use the 140 gr. Barnes Triple Shock(TSX) over Reloder 22 powder. I use 58-59 grains of this powder with 60 grains being the absolute maximum. Ok these might not be the heaviest bullets out there but this combo. makes a 270 pretty lethal in my humble opinion. I wouldn't hesitiate to shoot just about anything edible with this combo. Good luck. Art
