Heavy 12 ga loads

Hi All,

I am looking for some heavier loads for my shotgun.

The shooting range I am going only allows lead. I tried those: https://www.clevervr.com/en/hunting-loads/t4-royal-game-bior-wad
They are actually pretty good but cost $17 for 25 rounds.
I am loooking for something a little bit cheaper. My local gun stores have 250 rounds for around $80/$90. But I have no idea which of those are on the heavier side.

Do you have any suggestions? I live in the Vancouver area.

This would just be for fun.

Bird or Buckshot, both okay. I don't think there are slugs available in that price range.
It is just for fun on the range. I have a semi auto shotgun and it is pretty new. A few hundred rounds so far. I had some lighter loads which caused failures to feed every now and then. Birdshot as well as slugs. I just want to shoot about 250 more rounds through it and then try lighter loads. The gun goes up to 3 1/2"

I guess a heigh shot weight + more fps = more kick? Therefore better cycling of the gun.

If you are having cycling issues with a new semi on target loads I would be talking to the people you bought the gun from.
 
Well in general ...

heavier payload and more fps = more recoil

However in order to stay within max pressures the 12ga reaches a limit and then you have to reduce weight to increase speed.

Here is an example of one of the fastest commercial loads with a 1 1/8 oz load:

Winchester 3” Rack Master: 1 1/8oz; 1700 FPS

Maybe compare commercial offerings in the 1oz range and have a look at the speed of those loads.

The faster the more kick ..... :)
