heavy 45-90 loads

Most folks won't touch this one with a ten foot pole, you want loads that would wreck 99.9% of the 45/90s in existence, yours is the only exception that i know of.
Your action is strong and what I would do is find out how much water your cases hold and compare to the .458s, Lotts, etc. and when you find one with similar capacity, use their loads. BUT YOU DIDN'T HEAR THAT FROM ME !!!!!

Cartridges of the World states that the .45/90 would out run the .45/70 in any bullet weight by 200 fps. If that remains true with modern loadings, that puts the .45/90 well into .458 Winchester territory.

Anyone out there have any info on loading 45-90's for a p-17 enfield action. looking for info on thumpers to take to africa

Check out Lymans 49th for smokeless in the big BP cartridges.

Accurate Arms has data somewhere for obsolete cartridges. I remember reading about a smokeless load for my .50-140 (it was a huge load of H-4831).

Personally I use BP, but the data does exist for smokeless if you care to try it.

Chris.

thanx that gives me something. been reading about garretts 45/70 loads maybe i should have stuck with the old gov't round. I should still be able to run 45/70s but gunsmith said they may not chamber quite as smoothly. If any one is interested i could post some pics as things start to come together
