Heavy barrel rimfires-do they really hold their value

So I have been searching the EE for a heavy barreled rimfires-do for over a month.
Most of the adds I see are along the lines of " I bought it new 2 years ago and fired it,then stored it in the safe. I now want more than retail. "Are these guns really holding their value like this or am I missing something?
 
If it's a current production model that's available then how could they possible get more than they paid for it?

Some people have no idea of the value and others just want to pull the wool over another persons eye's still, others know the market very well and price accordingly. Some models that are no longer in production might be worth more to someone but it's buyer beware, know the prices and proceed accordingly.
 
I don't check the rimfire section, but in other areas I've noticed some fair prices, some good prices, and some prices higher than retail. Both from private sales and the odd time from vendors. Just know your prices, and don't overpay. Patience is key.

I have one and it’s a Very accurate heavy barrelled gun. One hole @ 75 yards if you do your part off a bipod.
I would recommend replacing the scope it comes with with something better.

Got a good point. I now do most of my firearms related purchases buying new on sale vs. overpaying for someone else's former wet dream on the EE.

Even by throwing the scope in the garbage, its a good deal !

You answered your own question didn't you. :)

If they are all priced high and selling, then they are holding their value.
If used rifles are all selling at close to retail price then the obvious answer is to buy new.
 
Well I can tell you mine isn't worth what I paid for it. Factory river 10-22 heavy barrel and fajen adjustable target stock. Great fun but it's sure bet to hell and looks like it was salvaged from a scrap metal bin. �� Can't recall what I paid, $450 at least. Probably couldn't get $200 now.

Doubt that! I’d give you $200 for it.

10/22’s hold their value ok. And older ones are good for builds.

I've only ever sold one gun and I regret it to this day!

This thing is haggard. There's a notch in the stock for every kill so it looks like it got dragged down the road behind a truck. The barrel has no more parkerizing left, it gets the rust cleaned off with a scotch rite pad from time to time. The muzzle looks as it it's been used as a jackhammer.

All my guns look like this. Lol
 
I manage to get one of those savage btvxp in 17hmr for 379.99.....think i got a good deal free shipping included... grabbed it the first day of the sale
 
Even with inflation and the price of everything going up, gun manufactures are finding new ways of cost cutting which is why heavy barrel rimfire remain pretty affordable. Older guns do hold their value insofar that their value is a hundred plus dollars or so less than a currant production gun that is similar. I am finding that most people will buy a new heavy barrel rimfire with a synthetic or a laminate stock over an old one with a walnut stock.

The only thing I have been seeing that are going up in value are the rare and obscure competition .22s but they have to be in very good to excellent condition. I have a couple of competition rifles that I bought a couple of years ago because they were inexpensive but this past year 2 people have literally shoved three times the amount of cash I have paid for them into my hands. I politely refused. One did however got sold because a guy from our club got smart and gave my wife the cash. Lol.
