Heavy Barrels

I didn't say you should take up benchrest and shoot it for the rest of your life. I said go shoot a few targets and then tell us it's easy. You are saying it is easy, so, put up. Print off a few practice targets and show us what you got. It won't kill you to go shoot a few targets one afternoon. If it's so easy...

As for how benchrest got started, I have seen a few people now and then, always people that don't like benchrest, state that it got its start for old and disabled people. Is there any actual truth in that? The reason I ask, well, I've already stated...it's always someone that doesn't like benchrest and claims it is easy that repeats this statement.

Shorty, no need to be cocky. I said I do not like benchrest, and I never said it is easy. It doesn't measure a quality of a shooter though. To larger degree success in benchrest is a function of a firearms and quality ammo. Breathing, trigger control is still there but not as pronounced as with 3p shooting.

Benchrest also cuts off bulk of new members in all clubs as they have to invest into expensive rigs to be competitive. In 3p any heavy barreled semiauto will shoot on par with most expensive target rifle, at least on a club level. In our local matches I successfully beat Anchutz's with my Savage MkII. Try that same trick in serious benchrest and see what I mean. So no matter what you say Shorty, I still maintain my opinion, and do not try dragging me into some kind of chest bumping.

I never said anything at all about me. I said you should try it. Because clearly you have not. You say things like "it doesn't measure a quality of a shooter" which clearly shows you've never even tried it. There's much more to it than simply lining up the gun on the bench and banging the trigger. And if you would stop being so closed-minded and would simply go try it for yourself with the targets I suggested, you would see in very short order exactly what I am talking about. If you went to a big benchrest match, and tried shooting the absolute best gun there, I guarantee you that you would do far worse with it than the guy who owns it. Why? Because you think it's all gun, and no shooter, and if the gun's good, you'll get good scores.

So, really, one afternoon, just for laughs, print off a few ARA or USBR targets, and go shoot them at 50 yards and see how you do. Take your best gun, or borrow the best gun you have access to, and see how you do. It's got nothing to do with me. It's all you. If you're really an open-minded individual who doesn't yet know everything there is to know about shooting, go try it, and see how you do. Because until you do that, you don't know the first thing about benchrest shooting, even though you think you do, judging from your comments. Though I am guessing that even if you do go do it, we'll never hear about it, after you see your scores, and realize that it takes a lot more skill than you thought. (Psst, ever heard of the wind?)
