Heavy duplex reticle. Applications?

I understand that the strengths of the heavy duplex are in low light and close range applications. But how much of a compromise would that be to detract from longer shots?

As opportunities are likely either right up close or out at 250-400 yards, I'd like the gun to have satisfactorily precise shot placement out there while tending to have good performance up close.

What are your experiences... If given two options, would you go for this or the regular duplex?

Thanks.

A Leupold spec’d similarly to what you mentioned with a duplex would be beyond adequate for the need as you described. There’s a lot of functionality in a duplex...

The eye peek'in thru the tube will dictate what will work for the shooter or not.
If heavy +'s were in order for me, I'd choose the three legg'id one.
Heavy at 9-3-&-6 o'clock.
German Reticle I do beleaf it's labelled?

I used the 1.75-6 with Heavy Duplex on my .416 Rigby when I had it, and it worked fine for what I was doing. The reticle doesn’t seem all that coarse when its viewed against an elephant. It was “good enough” for longer distances too; although “good enough” isn’t exactly lavish praise. I never did figure out what it was supposed to do better than a regular Duplex, or what I was supposed to be able to do at 1.75 that I couldn’t do at 2.5 or 3.

If you want to see your reticle better in low light; or full night for that matter it’s better done with more glass not more wire.:)
