Heavy engraved winchester 94, not a commemorative

Very nice engraving on a very plain rifle. Looks like the work of a German engraver simply because of the prolific use of the oak leaves. An English or Italian engraver would include some kind of beast which, is also common with German engravers, but just oak leaves, I'd bet German. I feel that if it was a presentation gun, they'd use a rifle with top quality furniture. Hope you can get a definitive answer, very nice rifle.

Very nice looking engraved carbine. I do not recognize it, but it is not Winchester factory work. The high relief style engraving is typical of European (German) engravers. The work looks to be excellent quality. Have seen a few pre 64 carbines show up the last few years (some even on here) with excellent non factory engraving and carving. There are some very talented people out there. Nice find.

Maybe Klaus Hiptmayer can direct you to the right engraver, as his wife was one of the top engraver of America.
