So I've got a handy dandy little Destroyer carbine (sporterized) in 9mm Bergmann/Largo that I plan on using to pretty much replace my .22, as the Destroyer is about the same size and weight, but I can both load it with small game ammo (for most of my use) and some version of a hot/heavy bigger game load (for close range/emergency use).

I've got a nice, quiet small game load all worked up (125gr LRN @ 750 fps), but I'm wondering what you fellows think would be most effective as a close range/emergency big game round for the 9mm Bergman?

For those of you who don't know, in the Destroyer, the 9mm Bergman is a longer (23mm) 9mm cartridge that is safely loaded to 38 super pressures and performance. Then add about 150 - 200 fps since it's being shot from a carbine and not a pistol.

I've got a mold for a 125 grain truncated cone bullet that I could hard cast and push fast for a heavy load, but I'm also wondering about jacketed bullets. Maybe a tough 147 grain HP that could hold together at high velocity?

You can use 9mm win mag brass.I have an in depth article in a military gun mag but no reloading data..after seeing the useless performance of a 9mm on a crippled deer with 147gr HP's I'd only use it for headshots to finish BG..Get some Speer Gold Dots if you must..Harold

This is the heavy bullet load you really need, and you already have the mold for it, too! ;)

Thanks Guy!
