"Heavy" sandbag sand

Any place that carries sandblasting grit should have something suitable. I bought a 25 lb bag of "Jet Mag" for about $12, have done 2 Protecktor bags, gave a bunch away, and still have enough to do another 4-5 more rear bags.

Your looking for Alumina Zirconia called stone blast from Norton abrasive it's used for blasting Granite Headstones. It's $150.00+ for 50lb box= .40cubic ft. 8"x9"x10"box probably at least 2-3X as heavy as any chit that comes in a BAG! Check your local Memorial monument manufactures or you could buy direct from:Derusha Supply Stansted Quebec (819)876-2722 .Used product will be extremely fine (repeated use) until it drops through a screen, so you probably want new product.

Do a google search on the "viper rifle rest" or "viper bench rest". I know for sure he is selling heavy sand even if it is not shown on his site. He will ship to Canukistan.

Check out some pet shops. Stores that sell aquariums/fish carry lots of different kinds of fine sands for fish tanks. They come in 20lb bags usually and have probably the same stuff you are looking for just marketed differently.

Go to a feed store and buy a bag of mineral for cattle or pigs. It is cheap and just as heavy.

You have to be careful with mineral. It is generally loaded with salt. If it leaks, or spills around your rifles, or any other steel in your equipment, rust will be everywhere.

As for the sand, I just used masonry sand. I think any sand blasting sand would work just fine too.

Would lead shot not work well?
Perhaps 7 1/2 or smaller?

Don't think lead would be a good idea, lead oxide would eventually form and its fairly bad for ones health. Blast sand will pack tight. Avoid anything that breaks down from moisture or rots. Use of heavy sand over blast sand is like a backpacker tearing clothing labels off garments to lighten his pack, any advantage would be too small to quantify.

Actually Garnet has a higher density than Alumina Zirconia (147 versus 130 lbs/ft3) and is generally easier and cheaper to get from blasting supply stores.
