With the popularity and availability of a number of Model 92 clones, not to mention the re-introduction of the Winchester 92, I was wondering if any of you are hunting with heavy slow bullets.

For example 330gr bullets out of a .44 Mag version or 360gr bullets out of a .45 Colt.

Either of those bullets at 1050fps (subsonic) would give very mild recoil and report, but would have plenty of go for deer sized game out to 100 yards. So, are any of you doing this, or have done it in the past?

Never worked one up for a deer load, but I did experiment with I think it was 2 grains of bullseye, just for fun, trying to get a really quiet grouse load. Yeah, I did stick a couple while working on how low I could go. No big deal to push out a cast bullet of course.

I was using a very heavy hard cast 44 mag bullet sized down for the 44-40.
The damned mold is up at my cottage so I can't tell you the weight.

I fired it into end grain pine from about ten feet, the penetration was amazing, if I remember, 4".

I gave it up, as the bullet would not feed from the mag properly, the nose profile pretty much needs to be a RN to work in my Original 1892.
