Yea that’s why I opt for an MRO ended up being cheaper as well. You start getting used to it and I just love it more and more everyday. Yea that’s all BS because They know HK guys will pay a premium. Get one on factory mount or Geissele mount and you will be set

I have owned an EOTech 552 if I remeber correctly. I really liked the reticle but it was extremely fuzzy since it was an older model. It was also quite heavy with 2x AA batteries in it, the batteries did not last either. The newer models I have seen have a much sharper/crisp reticle. I like the new green reticle on them as well. Since I have 2 magnified optics I am probably going to go with the red dot but if I did decide to go with a LPVO I want something simple like the Accupoint 1-4x BAC. I would really like a small, light model of red dot I think. I am considering one of the RMR08G Triangle or RMR06 3.25moa maybe. The Aimpoint Micro's would be a perfect fit too I am thinking but that picture you sent makes me want the MRO too since It is quite a bit cheaper then the Aimpoint Micro's unless I go the used route.
I was thinking that about the EOTech as well. I like that about the RMR since the MR is a bit heavy with the quad rail and 16in Barrel. That new aimpoint Acro P-1 is interesting as well. It will more than likely come down to price though. I may have to go on the EE and get something used since this purchase was "Stretching" funds wise. I hopeful it shows up this week for sure and I can shoot it before the weather turns.

You need one. You will be the most tactical HK fanboy at your range. You will be able to shoot better with this gun as well. You definitely need one to even say “you have an AR”. Just do it, it’s almost Christmas anyways just get one early.

I thought the exact same thing about my collection. You may have trouble sourcing one though. There is a A1 on the EE for a decent price.

I'm nowhere near home right now. So that's not a problem. And I'm willing to put in a factory order and wait. I saw the a1. To my knowledge that doesn't work with ar lowers... so im just gonna go for a factory order. Just a matter of who has the best price on them.
Earlier in the thread Greentips stated that any of the MR223's minus the very first version (Not the A1) work with regular AR uppers and vice versa. I inquired with N.S. not to long ago and got my dealer to contact them about ordering a new mr223a3 but I was told it would be at the very least 1yr before they would be seeing anymore MR's and depending on how quickly they fill their military contracts it could be even longer.
My local dealer called me today saying they got the rifle in so I went to check it out. It is the A3 not A1. Extremely happy with it!!! Cannot wait for the transfer to come through and when it does I will post a pic.
Have any HK MR223 or 308 owners used their rifles at PRS matches? These rifles would shine for PRS. Being restricted rifles, I wonder if anyone has gotten a STAAT to use their HK MR's at a match where the range is not on the "restricted" range list?
I used a 16" MR308A3 at PRS once. The farthest shot I was able to connect at PRS was at 604m with IMI 175 SMK, on a 12" plate. Maybe that is why HK advertises G28 as effective out to 600m. haha
YMMV, my opinion is that, yes, at PRS ( not at KD square range with a spotter ) with good fundamentals, good data and some good wind reading (with cooperating environmental factors) IPSC size target should not be unachievable out to 700m, but from 700 to 800 the bullet starts getting tired and the drop is getting bigger. It is still pretty doable because people have done it quite often, but i won't say it is a newbie shot. Getting the right ballistics numbers and solid wind dials are more of an operator skill thing, as well as knowing the ammo and the gun at the ranges being used. .
IMHO, shooting a MR308A3 16" in the tactical class of PRS is not exactly the winning move. It is a 1MOA gun, the people shooting sub MOA guns at higher velocity and therefore lower BC and lower wind deflection will always have easier lives.

Do you think the 20 inch version would alleviate some of the velocity issues at a longer distance?
The crowd at the precision rifle forum will probably give you a more educated response.
IMHO, it won't make noticeable difference with 175gr SMK loaded at full velocity or the M118LR. That velocity gain is like 80 to 90 fps out of a 20" tube, that cuts down the drop by 0.1 mil at those ranges. The wind drift is pretty close. When you are looking at 2 mil vs 1.9, it is a big drop vs a slight smaller big drop. I will say 24" is the length that will make a discernible difference at those long ranges when MV hits 2700 ish.
And by those BC and MV, the military goes from 20 to 16 because really the difference is minimal on paper, and probably their snipers found that too in real live.
On the other hand, if shooting handload with low MV to start with, you may need to use 20" to bring the velocity to what a 16" shooting military ammo will do. The conclusion is more like, if I am shooting a lot of handloads and I tend to optimize the velocity to get accuracy, buying a longer barrel is a better call. If I am buying cases and cases of IMI 175SMK ( hey Canada Ammo, listen to this! ), 16" is not a disadvantage to 20". For example, I have shot Swiss P 168SMK -it is an extremely whimpy load ( and it is also a 168 SMK). It has good accuracy at 300m but it is worthless at 500m out of a 16".
Another possible tactic is to use something like Hornady 168gr ELD ( not the 168 SMK or regular BTHP), and load it hot in a 16".

Transfer came through today and I brought it home. This is a damn nice Carbine!! Seems to be brand new basically. Super happy it ended up being the A3 not the A1. Fit and Finish is impeccable and I really like the Drum/Diopter rear sight.
I tried to post pics but it did not seem to work, I am not the greatest with that kind of thing. I will try again when I have a friend over who knows how to do this kind of thing better than I do.
On a side note does anyone know where to source the HK rail covers?

Congrats Deaus! That's exciting. Mine's sitting at home waiting for me. Didn't have a chance to open it before a 3 week stint away. Can't wait to take it out.
What ammo are you guys running through your A3's? Noted the receivers are marked with .223, is everyone sticking with that, or does anyone run 5.56 as well? Seems silly the gun wouldn't work in both. I kind of figured it was just a marketing thing to keep the civvy guns seeming less military. Like the SL8's that were marked .223 but had 5.56 on the receiver under the magwell.
