Just wondered how many of the crowd on here are going to the Heffley Creek Rondezvous which starts this coming Saturday and runs for 9 days. Its a hell of a lot of gun for them that are waffling. Lots of room for both tin teepees and primitive and all are welcome

I guess this is what Ken Steinhauer is heading there for. I inquired about buying blackpowder from him. He said he could meet me to sell me some but I can't get up there. Oh well, have fun.
 
My dog Moon will be guarding my camp :>). I forgot to mention that the Flint Lady will be up from Oregon again this year and is still selling flints

I've never been to one of those. What sort of events go on? Any BPCR shooting or all muskets?

I suppose it doesn't matter as I'll be at work the whole time, but I've always been curious about 'em.

There is something for everyone. Basically the camp is divided into primitive and tin town with about 2/3 being in tin town (modern camps, tents and so forth). They try to have a muzzle loading rifle event every second day (is at least one event per day and usually 2 events of some kind). There is a BPCR silhouette type event out to 400 yds and a Quigly event as well. Also handgun, shotgun and smoothbore (trade gun) and hawk and knife. Each event is sponsored by a different club and most run for 1/2 day ie 9:00 to 12:00 and 1:00 pm to 5:00pm. Prizes for the top 10 contestants in each event. I am guessing that the total area is around 1/4 section and primitive and tin town each occupy I am guessing around 15 or 20 acres.
Because of the extreme fire hazard, there will be no fires of any kind this year and cooking in primitive will have to be on propane stoves. Most years campfires are allowed.

if you google up Heffley Creek Rendezvous and then on the gallery button, there are an abundance of photos of the events. For them that is wondering, Heffley is about 12 miles north of Kamloops, BC

they are on evacuation notice with wildfires nearby,, a lot of people have packed up and moved out, very limited water supply this year as well, they were wokeup at 3-30 am to recieve evacuation notice,,
 
the evac notice has been lifted, quite smoky, around the valley, a few of the clubs that were to put on events have withdrawn, and packed and left,, theres still a lot of folks there and having fun , i never went this year as was concerned of the fire hazard, ,, looks like it may rain a bit but going fine so far,, wade
 
I carry a letter from the BATF, stating these firearms are "precribed antiques" also a copy of BATF regs + Wash. State regs, I green card my flint long guns and of course my ATT and reg. cert for my pistol, also a copy of the pertaining CFC regs.
Most Times I get pulled over,everything they need to know is right there in my accordion folder, haven't had a problem yet. I go about 4/yr for about 10 yrs now.
A friend of mine (bellydancer) was hassled by a certain border guard, I called the US CBP head office, they sent a memorandum to each border crossing. Bellydancer doesn't have any problems now.

I just got back from Heffley; lots of fun although total camps were down at a guess about 30 or so with I am guessing around 100 total of which there must have been at least 45 in primitive. Kamloops Search and Rescue I think were the ones that showed up at 3:30 and generally created panic and confusion in the camp. Instead of waiting till daylight and giving an organized explanation of what was going on, they went around knocking on doors in the middle of the night when everyone was asleep. Should be noted that the fire had been burning north east and away from the camp for two days according to the information releases.
Anyway, I will start a new topic and post photos of the rondy soon

there was two fires , one too the north and one to the east, of the rendevous, and i guess the 3-30 am wakeup call may have seemed rude, but better than fire coming over the hill unannouced, i thought it was good that the out of towners were warned that they were in a extreme fire hazard area, i think better to be warned,, it worked out anyway,, as it finally rained, wade,
 
I think the way it was done created a lot of confusion combined with the "cry wolf " problem. Many of us figured that the government always cries wolf and greatly exagerates the risks so that this risk was probably not real or at least greatly exagerated. I also am under the impression that the fire to the east was much farther away. I think the impression of the very early warning call was to imply that the fire was within a mile or so and coming our way and that was simply not the case. Waiting a few hours and giving the whole camp an informed talk would have been far far more appropriate. Also ironic in that the vast majority of the camps that left were those that had the least to worry in the sense that almost all were campers, motor homes and trailers that needed only to turn the key on and leave at a moments notice.
