For years I've been living with this thought that guns were bad and blah blah blah... then I moved out on my own... met a wonderful man who shared his love of guns with me... got over the whole fear thing... then years went on... and I came in contact with another gun nut who got me and my man all gung ho about getting our gun license... due to financial circumstances and pending mortgage, we can't do that now, but are looking forward to it in the future... but MEANWHILE I got sent to this lovely site which I'm thoroughly enjoying :)

So that's my story! -- and I'm stickin' to it.

HI ALL! :D

Welcome aboard!!

Ya never know, maybe someone here lives near you and would be willing to setup a range day for you some day, and try a few different fireamarms, and some practical knowledge--especially gun safety!!

It is always good to hear of people interested in joining the shooting sports!!

Even better to hear of people getting over the stigma that seems to be bred into a select group, and realizing the truth of guns....Its up to all of us to teach the ignorant that guns arent dangerous, or bad, if they are in the hands of somebody who has been trained in their safe use!!

Myself I have been around firearms all my life, and have been taught since day one that they can be dangerous if used improperly, or unsafely. I wish everyone was taught the proper respect at a young age as I was.

Hey Cap'n :) I'm actually really looking forward to learning more about the guns, the issues and the safety laws Canada has. It's actually quite interesting to see how much passion people have for their guns... in a way I equate it to the moding of cars... all moded cars are taken to be street racers which isn't necessarily true, but it's in the media so much that it's starting to really irritate me. As far as ignorance goes, I blame it on lack of attention to detail. People float through life only listening to things fed to them without the need to question or think through. I guess you can blame it on our hectic schedules or stresses, but really, one needs to be aware of their surroundings which is part of why I joined the gun nutz :)

A gun-loving woman...be still my aching heart!
Welcome aboard, WildKitty.:welcome:

PAL course is about $200

A .22cal rifle can be had for $100-300

Gun club membership $75-200 a year

Inexpensive guns

Norinco M93 (.22cal) $200
Norinco 1911, CZ clones, Sig clones (go for 9mm as it is the cheapest) $400

Gun safe $150

Worst case get your PAL and then buy some pellet guns, you can still start learning and then get a nice .22cal pistol and a Canadian tire safe for it.

Single shot shotgun 135$ and a small game license 16$ (Qc) there is nothing nicer than taking a walk, grouse hunting, in the fall when the colours are changing. It's cheap, simple and fun!

Wildkitty I love your name! I didn't see your introduction here until now but have read some of your other posts, and I have to say I think you are AWESOME! I love how you write and express yourself. Yay, lucky us that you joined the CGN forum! Welcome!!!! :)

I have found that gun nutz are some of the most generous people in the world! When I visited London Ontario last fall I got to go shooting at EESA as a guest of Stormbringer and I got to shoot 2 ar-15's and 4 handguns, and another CGNer's .303. I am STILL in total heaven from that day of shooting! Now my son is there visiting (my parents) and he is going to go shooting at EESA too, as Stormbringer's guest. I am still in awe of how generous gunnutz can be with their time and their guns.

If you check out the newbie section there is a list of people in each province who have said they are willing to take people shooting. (That's why I asked Stormbringer to take me shooting.) I bet you and your sweetie will be able to find someone wherever you live who will take you as their guest. If you don't see anyone from your area listed you can post a request and I am sure someone will respond. Most CGNer's are a totally awesome bunch of people in my opinion!

Have fun fun fun! :)

Ontario... let the pity begin... trying to see what's shakin' in Alberta though LOL

Howdy!
Come on out to Alberta and you will soon find that Ontario is best viewed in one's rear view mirror!:D ( flameproof suit is on!)

Howdie Diddly Do to you too neighbourino! Looks like we watch the same programming anyway. We are allowed to watch the Simpson's in Ontario although it is politically incorrect. I'm a newbie myself and a complete computer illiterate. Met several very nice people here so far. I should let them know about me as well although I am from The Kalifornia of the North.

the kalifornia of the north eh? Love it! :)

Annie, you're so sweet! Thank you so much for the warm welcome.

Cat, I'm more of a flyer myself... but I do agree with you about Ontario. It's really easy to say stuff about it too since Alberta is the richest province ;) you guys best share that oil ya hear? :p
