I recently aquired a Kimber Custom Target II. I like it a lot except the target sights. Really didn't like the sharp edges during the CQB match I ran. It cuts my hand when I rack the slide and snags my webbing. I called Kimber to see what sights ar available in a combat configuration that will fit the Kimber Target model slide. The only company that makes one is Heinie. I ordered their Straight Eight Tritium set. However I am a bit apprehensive about the whole 2 dots being aligned vertically as opposed to the traditional 3 horizontal dots. How do you guys like the Heinie Sights? Do yo anticipate me having any issues with them?

I have them on a lot of my pistols(all but one) and like them a lot, its easier in my opinion (I won't talk science here) to align the dots. Take your time and see what you think?

Mildot; go ahead and get scientific on me; I don't mind. I have read their advertising about it being a superior method of alignment; I would like to know the reason why...

I have shot a lot of trap. Although I do not require it, I have used a mid bead quite often. I am no stranger to a figure eight bead stack configuration. My concern it this; with a shotgun that fits properly, the second bead and even the rib become superfluous. With the proper fit and consistent mount, your head/eye becomes the rear point of reference to the front bead. While I have seen the figure eight on a shotgun barrel, I have only ever used it as a reference until I know where the gun shoots when it is mounted to my body. After that, I ignore it.

As such, I have little or no practice of lining up two beads in a figure eight to specifically aim a firearm. With a handgun having a far shorter sight radius and much less tactile reference for consistent grip in relation to my body, using that rear sight becomes a lot more important. I am a poor handgun shooter to begin with; I hope I am not making it harder for myself with a new sight picture.

Thanks for the input so far!

I have always hated anything except for black on my rear sight as I find it slows me down to align all the dots. I find if the gun fits me and points well all I want to see is my front blade(preferably with fiber optic). I also like to have the notch on my rear sight opened up to help speed up how quick you can pick up the front blade.

Note that the notch doesn't seem as wide when you're holding the gun away from your body when firing.

That being said I have straight 8's on my Guncrafter CCO and they are super fast, I find the dot on the bottom doesn't slow me down and they already come with a wider notch.
