Held a S&W 460 revolver yesterday

I have one. At first I was thinking about the .500, but after doing some reading I started toying with the idea of the .460 XVR with 8 3/8" barrel. This was when I first got my PALs, so I wasn't really thinking of picking up one right away, but less than a second after I put one in my hands for the first time I had settled on my first handgun. Not the most practical gun for a mans' first handgun, but I've never regretted the decision for a day. If you were in the Edmonton area I'd let you let a few off out of mine...
 
I have a 460V and I fired my friends 460XVR before he sold it and his was a little softer on recoil but I like the looks of the short barrel better. Both are accurate and I love that I can shoot 45LC, 454 casull, and 460 through it. The factory 45LC loads are pathetic in this revolver and almost feel like you are playing with a 22. My 45LC handloads are quite nice and have some decent snap to them. The 454 factory loads are fun, they have a good boom and some decent recoil. I haven't loaded any 454 yet so I can't comment on them. The factory Hornady 200gr FTX loads are awesome. Really loud and huge fireball. I use the 240gr Hornady XTP-MAG bullets for my handloads in the 460 and they are a grain or 2 under max book and have a nice big fireball and huge boom. I worked up to max and then backed down a half grain at a time till it didn't make my hands tingle after each shot.

I love my 460. It is so versatile being able to shoot loads light enough to let my girlfriend shoot it all the way up to loads that shock everyone around.

The muzzle brake is very effective and takes alot of the recoil out of it. I shot a Ruger in 454 a couple years ago and it kicked harder than the 460 running the 454 loads.

I've heard that the 460V has been discontinued so if you find one and like it then buy it quick. I haven't looked into it to find out if it's true but why risk it:)

Don't buy one, buy two.
If I come across a good deal on a second one I will be buying another:D

I almost feel like I'm being trolled with those pictures of the 460's muzzle flash; it's like the shooters' hands were photoshopped over with fireballs. Shooting one of these will definitely be on my to-do-before-30 list.

Why did it get discontinued? Still waiting for the one grom Regina to show up. WSS, 6 hr drive........ over a month waiting......
 
Ive shot one myself, nice gun. However, i wont buy one as its too expensive for plinking unless you reload, .357 mag is expensive enough for me, maybe 44 mag tops. Now if we could handgun hunt in this country different story.
 
I have one of these, the V model. Absolutely love it :rockOn:.

First shots were with 45 Colt, cowboy loads. I don't think the gun moved when firing ;).
Next were 45 Colt hand loads. Fill the case with H110 and stuff a bullet in there. Got a nice bark with good flame. The gun weight and comp soaked up a lot of the recoil. A real nice round.
Have some 454's but I haven't shot any of them....yet.
The 460's make me giggle like an idiot. The flame, the concussion .....the looks on bystanders faces :eek:, what's not the love?

As for the cost of ammo, for the love of your wallet, RELOAD!!!! I figure the cost of the dies (Redding) has already been covered.
Wait a sec, lets see.....factory ammo goes for $2-3/round. I can reload for about $.80/round (high estimate). At $1.20 saving/round minimum, and I've cranked off ~100 reloads so far, I have easily recouped my die cost, and then some. Not too bad considering I've only had the gun since Feb.
I'm not counting my press 'cause I'm already reloading.

^^^was that at The Grange (aka Target Sports)? Didn't they shut the place down for a while due to the fire alarms and sprinklers going off....LOL

Yup, that's at Target. If your ever there on a Saturday morning(when we go to the club it's usually then) and you hear an obnoxiously loud boom, it's probably me:cool:.

I'm usually there Saturday am shooting my Ruger 4.2" .44...wimpy compared to your 460:eek:
