I'm new here and to reloading need some help.
Just purchased a full stock steyr Mannlicher M 20 inch barrel rifle date manufacturer 1983
In 6.5x57 belted cartridge. Looking to load the new Hornady eldx 143 grain bullet in some 6.5x57 wrs brass I have. Does anyone have a formula or advice for me please. Thanks.

I too think you should read a loading manual or two. Or three.

This is not flippant advice. There is no shortcut to loading effective, safe, and reliable ammunition. Reloading manuals are your very best bet, and far more reliable than internet advice.

Other than this advice, of course.

Thank you. Very hard finding info on this caliber.
Very popular in Europe apparently nothing much here that I have found.
Manual I have has load data for 129gr. 139 and 156 round nose.

I was scratching my head trying to think of what this could be besides rimmed... 139gr is only 3gr less than 142gr. Use that readily available data and provided you aren't toying with maximum or near maximum loads, the bullet weight difference (read, starting with minimum recommended charges ...) will be of little consequence.

Thank you for the help . If I wanted a little more Mv out of this cartridge what powder do you recommend to get at least 3000 Mv. this cartridge seems to about 2700 with 131 factory load. I'm still thinking 143gr.

I doubt you'll get 3000 fps with a 143 grain pill. H4350 and H4831 are optimal. Go to the Hodgdon website and you have lots of reloading recipes. Try the 129 gr Hornady pill if you can find them.

3000fps with 140+gr bullets is not attainable with currently available powders so don't bother thinking about it. Stick to published data until you have acquired the experience necessary to flirt with maximum loads.

I have no experience with the 6.5x57, but plenty with the comparable 6.5x55: Shooting 140gr bullets, slow burning powder like H4831 are a good choice. Specifically for the 6.5x57 my older manual lists RL-21 and N205 as those producing highest velocities... Maximum 2666 and 2734fps respectively with their test components. I would take that as being a literal maximum, as folk back then tended to be more responsible as opposed to the litigation society we live in now...

Thanks new camper . And the rest that posted .
I will take these suggestions and tips and let you all know how I made out with picks as soon as figure out how to post pictures and maneuver the forum here better.
