Hi,

obligatory first post.

I've become interested in having a firearm after a few animal encounters during my solo canoe camping trips. Applied for my PAL and now doing my research.

H.

P.S. Glad to have a resource such as this one available to canadians.

Welcome! Cheap and cheerful 12 gauge shotgun, assortment of slugs and shot. About the best thing for most animal encounters. And if there is a 2 legged issue, nothing beats the bowel loosening sound of a 12 gauge racking.

If you trip Ontario and combo gun in 410/22lr will do. Carry spray and bangers. A gun should be the last resort not the first. You can't carry it on most park designated water in any case practice using it shooting it and get to know it. I carry a semi auto 22 magnum and bangers in NB.

Welcome to CGN ;)

Ain't that the truth!
