I,ve been active in the shooting sports for just about my whole life. I fired my first .22 when I was about five years old on my grandfather's farm in Alberta. Over the years I've worked in the industry both wholesale and retail and at one time operated my own shop. After that I moved in the direction of firearms instruction. I taught hunter safety course and was involved in the early stages of the Canadian Firearms Safety program as a master instructor. If you remember the original video, I was one of the "duck hunters" demonstrating field carry positions and shooting angles. I wrote for BC Outdoors Magazine for about ten years on hunting and shooting. I also became a professional firearms instructor in law enforcement and security and worked in that field for about 20 years. I have recently semi-retired from that field of work.
I've compeated in many shooting disiplines. I was one of the original group of shooters who started IPSC at Thompsoon Mtn. Range in BC in the mid 70's. It was really exiting and so different from any type of handgun shooting at the time. We were so keen about it that we would travel to California to compete in local matches there with the North Valley Shooters Assoc. out of Gridly. I then moved on to IHMSA which was just starting locally and focused on that for a number of years. Other activities have included PPC, BCRA rifle competition and trap & skeet.
In addition I've always enjoyed hunting, mainly big game. One thing I could never get used to was the change from blue steel and wood, to stainless and synthetic in sporting firearms. Although I tested and wrote about these new rifles I could never own one for long. Now I really enjoy shooting and hunting with vintage guns. I'm particularily interested in Remington model 8, 81, 141, early Winchester semi-auto's - 1905, 1907 & 1910 and many more uncomon types like the Savage 340 and all it's variations. I also like vintage shotguns like the Browning Auto-5 and Remington 11.
I am really looking forward to becoming and active member of this site.
