Hello From Etobicoke - Anywhere to shoot?

Hello,

I just got my RPAL at the beginning of August and purchased an obligatory starter rifle, the Ruger 10/22. I grew up shooting pellet guns with my dad, and his family has a large gun history (we are descendants of courier de bois and voyageurs). My moms side of the family however, is very anti gun, and love dictated my father relinquish his few guns to his family members.

Now I am moved out, have my license, and plan to get my own firearms and receive antiques from my family, that have been passed down from generation to generation. As stated, my experience isnt much more than shooting a pellet gun. So, in addition to introducing myself, I am wondering if there are any good gun clubs in the GTA/ north of the GTA (Barrie,Orillia,Gravenhusrt) because I have family and friends up there and frequent that way more often(I am from Barrie).

Even though its in the wrong direction, I am considering signing up at Silverdales, since it comes highly recommended.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums. The Orillia Gun Club (Gun Club Road @ Hwy 11 North...beside Ellwood Epps) might be an option for you. There are also the Barrie and Aurora Gun clubs too.

In the GTA, I can recommend Range Burlington.

Guelph Rod and Gun isn't far for rifle.
There are quite a few handgun clubs shooting in Etobicoke. There's a range on the Easy side of Royal York, north of the Queensway, that has different club every night. It's in an old police station.
Lakeshore Arms Academy, I think it's called, at Dixie and Lakeshore Rd., in Mississauga. Saturdays only though. http://lakeshorearms.com/

Silverdale is not abad spot, however your overall enjoyment will depend on which RSO is working and which kooks are on the range with you.

Im pretty sure the club on royal york no longer exists unless it has moved. The address listed is now a building under construction next to the fire station. I really hope it still exists some where close by since I live on royal york myself.

Otherwise, I would recommend Silverdale. Im also in etobicoke and just recently became a member there. The drive can be a pain some times but its usually worth it.

I believe that it has moved. I don't have a current address, but googling "Toronto Revolver Club" should point the right way.

The range that was on royal york rd was the Forest Hill Revolver Club, not the toronto revolver club which is still around in the east end of toronto.

Nice to have you with us, fellow etobicokian! Sadly, some morons screwed up at CFB Borden and us members are no longer allowed guests. Should that change, I'll let you know. I think it's fantastic that you're planning on recovering and treasuring the old family firearms. If I can ever be of assistance, let me know.

The Range on Royal York is leased by West Toronto Revolver, and several other clubs sublet for different nights.

Even though the building has been almost totally gutted by the new owners, we are still using the range.

Update: Range Closing as of 1 Oct 11. Damn
