Hello from Fort McMurray, Alberta!
Just wanted to do the right thing and check in before I get too post happy. I'm pretty new to firearms. Looks like my first gun is going to be a Socom 16. Snagged it from the P&D inventory when I saw it. They are holding it for me until I get my RPAL in hand and can get down to E-town. I've been checking my mailbox daily... haha.
"First gun is an M1A?!"
I know. I feel like I'm jumping in on the deep end a bit with the type of gun I chose but at the same time I'm confident in my personality and cautious nature that I have no doubts I will be able to handle the weapon safely. I don't plan to go crazy with it off the bat. I plan to fully learn the mechanics including dis/reassembly and cleaning steps before firing it. Chances are I will also be picking up a 10/22 for getting some gopher time and the basics down 100% before stepping into the realm of the .308. I will also be firing a lot of rounds with only the irons before I slap any optics on it. Who knows, I might own (and master) two or three other guns before really getting into the Socom. I also have some good friends that are into guns to mentor me. I think the socom will have a role to play in my collection in the future and I had the money to get it now so I jumped at the chance.
That's about where I'm at now...
-Need to find some advice on safes/storage options.
-Am I wrong in my preliminary thinking that I can fire 7.62 surplus in my socom no problem?
-Any advisory info on any of the items I have listed in my signature is also welcome.
Thanks!
Dylan
