So I went for my PAL class last week and passed with a 98% so now I just play the waiting game to get everything back. I really like this site so far. I really find the links to all the stores really helpful since there are very few stores that sell firearms around me.

Ive looked into various gun clubs around the area and have found one that meets my needs and I can't wait to get out there.
Anyone else from the London, St. Thomas Alymer area?

Hey ...welcome aboard :) Nothing quite like fun with a gun...except when the Armys paying you to blat a few hundred rouns down range and they provide lunch...
Have fun and stay safe

London here as well.....

EESA is a great club, but all little too far from London IMO.

Although some have a negative opinion on the Crumlin Club in London, I've enjoyed it for the last 10 odd years.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I don't mind the drive and I can get cheaper gas to help. Lol. Idk why but I never really gave crumlin a chance.

CGN is an awesome resource. I haven't found a message board anywhere that has better info on the hobby for us newbies than you can get here. Hope you get as much out of the site as I have been!

EESA is too darn far away for me. Takes 1/2 an hour just to get to Crumlin from Whitehills :-(

I've been to EESA, and know quite a few members there. It's a great facility - But I like to shoot right after work most days, especially during the summer. The fact that Crumlin is only 10mins from my house means I can get the best use out of my membership money, without spending big on gas.

Thanks everyone for their input. I've been trying to decide on which club to join. I have heard some bad things about Crumlin, but could anyone elaborate on them? Also, I don't like how they have only bench rest and prone shooting for rifle range.

I have heard only good things about ESSA and the little bit of correspondence I have had with them has been awesome. I like their 300m range and that you can shoot in any position you want.

So I'm torn really. ESSA is about 30 min from where I work in St. Thomas so it wouldn't be so bad going there after work, but it would be an hour from my house. Crumlin is about 20 min from my house but seems to be a little more restricted with times and what you can do at the club.

Someone said they can get cheap gas near ESSA, where is that at?

Thanks everyone.

Also, anyone have any leads on a good cond. Winchester model 94 in .30-30?

Gas is a bit chaper in Aylmer in general compared to London. I get it at the Loblaws just in town. Since I drive something that needs 91 it's a bit cheaper again because they dont seem to jack it as much between the grades as other stations.

I live in south London so the Drive isnt bad. Plus, I work 100 km(round trip) away so whats a few more to shoot. lol.

For me the drive is the only downfall. The rest out weighs that. 24h pistol range once tou have a key is pretty sweet.

Ya the 24h range is a big factor for me. Prob just shoot a .22 rifle until I get around to getting my Rpal. I'm in Southwest London, right near Springbank.

Ah yes the Alymer gas station. I know where that is and will prob use that as my regular fill up as I drive a truck and regular fill ups are a little too regular these days.

So ESSA is a good place? I'm 90% sure I will go there, since I have to drive to go to a range I might as well go to the one that's a bit further but seems more like a spot for me.

Nothing wrong with crumlin. I was a member there when i lived in london. The club is well kept up and Ray the president is a good guy. Downfalls are outdoor only so its mainly daytime shooting. I like how the pistol and rifle ranges are seperate. Go to the monthly initiation meeting before you decide against it.

It's a good place.

The open house is fun. As a member I volunteer for the day and it's pretty cool to see new shooters go from scared ####less to OMG that was amazing in the first trigger pull....

My only complaint's are the drive and SOMETIMES the calendar isnt complete and I get there to find the range is in use. Thats happened a couple times. But I think the calendar is getting better. There are a lot of change happening in the club.

When I go to regular pistol days I find everyone (for the most part lol) to be pleasant and cool to talk to.

This is not really the forum for this, but since you asked, ;)

Most of what I hear from people, is that Crumlin is too "restrictive". (i.e. no rapid fire, military firearms are frowned-upon, etc, etc).
I've been a member there since 1997, and rarely do I see any real "restrictions", but I will highlight some notable points.

First, look at where they've come from.

Crumlin has been around since about 1920, and was established a long-ways outside of London, at that time. Well, progress being what it is - London annexed that area of land with the club on it, and grandfathered their rights to be able to discharge firearms in city limits; I think that happened about 15-20 years ago.

Although the club is surrounded by farm, industrial and private land, the club executive has continuously held-out an olive-branch to the farmers and local organizations to ensure complaints, concerns and issues are resolved at the lowest level, (i.e. don't find their way to city counsel, where they might decide to limit what happens on club property, or worse - shut it down).
So there is an agreement with the Ukrainian Club across the street to not allow shooting before 10am. A couple of other things, but IMO doesn't detract from being a good club.

You only need to look at what has happened to other clubs in Ontario with noise complaints, etc, etc.
Anyways, so much of what many people say are restrictions, is really just to ensure long term preservation.

Hey Gillen

I'm from London ontario too I actually belong to Crumlin Sportsmans Association http://www.crumlin.org/
I have allot of friends that go to East Elgin Sportsmans association http://www.eesa.ca/

Crumlin is in London thats the main reason I can drive there in less than 15 mins. As for the stores.. Ontario Gun services is great, Triggers and Bows and Gobles firearms are all good you just have to watch the pricing on some places.
