Thanks a lot Manitou,

Same thing over here! If you ever happen to visit your cousin give me a heads up and we can tour the Ardennes region, visit the sites related to the Bulge, there are some great Museums and last but not least do some shooting.

Tom

I find it interesting that Luxemburg cops carry revolvers . I would have thought a Sig or a Glock .

It's the Police and the Forest Sevice that carry the .357 S&W 686, the Customs have a Semi Auto Pistol, most of them Browning High Power, some units got issued a polymere frame Pistol not sure about the model tough.

For sure I'm not convinced about Revolvers as a service gun, but most officers don't care, there is hardly any crime and only a shooting incident every five years or so...........!

The Police Swat team use SIG's and Glock's tough.

You know in the Media it's the same crap all around, Germany, France, Belgium........you name it, gun owners are evil "Untermenschen" with mental deficits etc.etc.... We've been lucky we didn't have any unscrewed moron who went on a rampage with a gun! Once it happens i can kiss my baby's good-bye. But till then I will enjoy it.

Regarding the line from Freud:

I'got a Friend who's a Shrink, Gestalt therapist and working for more then ten years in Education for Peace, in the Middle-East with Palestinians and Israelis, Northeren Ireland, Cyprus etc on top of it he's a pure breed marxist!
Guess what his favourite pass time is when he visits me???
Shooting........

By your description I tought it was Vogelsang, it's not in Belgium but in Germany alltough the camp was used by the Belgium Army till they closed it down a few years ago.

Yes, I do remember Belgium guards when we drove in, and you're right it was in Germany. During our training, I remember finding old slit trenchs in the woods but was never sure who's they were..... Are there not still quite a few areas around there still "out of bounds" do to unexploded ordinance?

Yes there are many areas around with unexploded ordonnance, Camp Elsenborn is still used as a firing Range for artillery, we used to shoot our 81mm Mortars there. At Elsenborn they have now a environement protection programm running and they're integrated into an european network. Last time i was up there, its a little over a month now, I had quite a long discussion with the NCO in charge about all the old UEOD lying around in the moor.
Elsenborn was originally raised by the old German Kaiser as an maneuvre field where the Cavalry could train under real artillery fire.

Welcome to CGN. I trained at Vogelsang a few times when posted in Germany. A very cool place. I should scan some pics and post them. Also, like many Canadian military, picked up a new VW Jetta in Luxembourg.

Welcome to CGN, like a few others here I was in Germany for 3 years in the mid 80's and my Squadron went on a trip to a Belgian training camp once, I can't remember the name but they had APC driver training and anti-tank missle simulators that we got to play around with. One of the best parts of the trip was one of the Belgian officers had an awsome collection of authentic WWII German uniforms and he got some of his troops to wear them to show them to us. We also got a Battle of the Bulge bus tour, oh and really good fries on every corner, almost.;) :D

Allowed to own but not shoot full-auto?
Man, that would drive me nutz!

Sounds like Canada to me, but you can also add converted auto's to the list.
