Hey all,

I've just started a firearms club at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario that will go live this January. I'm here in hopes of networking with other organizations and people out there in order to bring a better experience to my members.

Welcome and good luck with Firearms Club. You gona need it.I hope you won't get into trouble like other non-politically correct university clubs/organizations.

Kudos to you and your group Brian.

I'm sure you all have reading aplenty to do without further suggestions from me. I'll nonetheless suggest "More Guns Less Crime" by John Lott Jr. to you, should the reading spirit move you. It will arm you well for the gun debates I expect you'll be engaged in.

So how's the Uni think about a 'Shooting Club' with it's name on it? Do they discriminate? If you have a problem with it look up Petra.

Thanks for the suggested reading HKMark, I imagine that would benefit me greatly as I've always believed in the truth of that title.

What do they think of a firearm-based club bearing McMaster's name? They haven't made themselves entirely clear. I've met with the club's administrator of the school and she actually seems on board with the idea, and just wanted to confirm with me the educational and safety focus of the club. However when the club was brought up for ratification at a Student Representative Assembly meeting, a motion was passed to delay ratification pending a name change. Apparently they don't like the word "gun" so we're thinking McMaster Arms Association or similar. I have my doubts that this was the (only) problem they had, so I'll be there at the next meeting to deal with any new issues they may bring up.

I say firearm-based because it isn't just a shooting club. Sure, we may make a trip or two to the range with our PAL members, but in general our focus is on information and even debate.

The term "Firearms" would probably be more appropriate for a PC Uni. Try to get as many Poli Sci as you can. They'll be the future of Parliament able to protect our rights.
