I've seen links to cgn on CASD's Canada Carry.org and cgn members joining Facebooks Castle Doctrine in Canada and figured it was about time I joined myself.
I'm copying the below from the introduction I put on Canada Carry in September 2010 (because I'm efficient - not lazy) with update to show the progress that has been made since.
September 2010
I'm a bit of a recent convert; by which I don't mean to imply that I ever believed in gun control. However; being a city boy born and bred who never hunted or farmed I didn't believe I needed firearms in the city. I had fired rifles in the reserve forces for two years in my early 20's (now 48) but never took up shooting in the intervening years.
A friend gave me the link to The Right to Keep and Bear Arms in Canada on July 1st 2008 and that started the process of change. I was quite opposed to the U.S. second amendment until that time, but as I read there and saw the attempted coalition coup, Mayor Miller shutting down shooting ranges and businesses, and became aware of what was going on with Bill C68 my eyes began to open. I now believe all citizens should be armed and the government should fear their citizens.
I joined the CSSA last october and took my Safety course in September. My PAL finally arrived in February. I tried some trapshooting lessons with Learn Trapshooting hxxp://learntrapshooting.ca/Home/tabid/240/Default.aspx which I thoroughly enjoyed. I haven't purchased any firearms yet as my newfound convictions are still causing some marital strife which I have to manage and navigate.
Can't blame her; for some unknown reason my former thought patterns were a bit of a sacred cow that I had to wrestle with for a full year myself.
Anyway; happy to be here. Thanks for having me.
Updates since then
I finally bought a rifle safe in November after being threatened with divorce and taking my beloved to some marriage counseling sessions (3). The counselor was a woman and gently guided my wife to see that I was being responsible in wanting to get the safe first and reminded my wife of her trust in me.
I should add that my wife had the trauma of seeing her mom shot before her eyes in a robbery; so her fear of firearms is coloured by that.
That same month I bought my first firearm, a Browning pump-action shot gun and joined the Oshawa Skeet and Gun club.
In the future I hope to upgrade to restricted and purchase a CZ858 and a Glock 45.
I hope my introduction illustrates that conversions can be made.
Keep up the good fight.
Thanks for having me.
