Hello from West Hawk Lake/Winnipeg, Manitoba

Hi All,

I'm just an old dude that used to hunt and trap a lot, way back when all you needed was a Hunters Safety Cert. to go hunting, and you could buy any rifle at the local country store.

I attended a two year course at Red River College for gunsmithing, didn't get to use that knowledge much.

I did have a fair collection of rifles and a couple of hand guns, but lost all that in a fire, and never bothered to replace them.

Now my two boys (age 21 and 24) want to go hunting, so here I am, trying to catch up on the latest, and maybe learn something new along the way.

That's it for now, time to snoop around.
Have a good one.
Dave

A big hello from a fellow Winnipeg shooter. There is a huge amount of info here at CGN so have fun with your snooping:D

Welcome - I learned to shoot at age 5, and we would bird, moose, elk, deer, bear, and varmint each year. I am glad my dad, as an American who moved to Canada in the early 60's after a hunting trip to BC, gave me and my brothers the chance to do all the things we did, and still do together as a family.

We are now planning a hunting/fishing trip to Mongolia sometime in the next year or two. Giant Taimen fish on a fly and some sort of sheep variant hunt is the goal.

Welcome from one old guy to another. This is a great place for info, I've learned a lot since I joined. Some of the young fellas here are not very tolerant to my dumb questions but most are very helpfull and they all mean well.

Not much has changed. the bar got bigger as well as the store next door, the ice-cream bar at the top of the hill was replaced with a Bar and Grill, the gas station/motel beside that is the same, as well as the burger joint across the street. Other then a few face-lifts, it all remains the same.

Welcome to the CGN. :welcome:
Wow, West Hawk Lake, does that take me back a bit. I haven't been there since 69, I imagine it's changed quite alot since then.

Well, that's nice to know, cause I plan on asking a lot of dump question, even if I already know the answer, just to see if they know.

I will have to say, after checking out the for sale forum, I felt like a kid in a candy store. This web site is like Lee Valley, going to cost me a fortune.. :)
