Ever since I was a kid I loved lever actions; although I have never owned one. My old man had one that was stolen when I was a kid.

I hunt and love my 270 (savage bolt) but I would love a lever action in 270.
The only one I can find is a browning which has some slight variations of models.

Does anybody know of any others?

have any experience with these brownings?

any opinions on lever action 270s?

I had an older Browning BLR .308 made in Belgium, nice action, good rifle. You will have a lot more to choose from if you considered a .308 in a lever action. Winchester Model 88 and Savage made some nice ones.

Both the Sako Finnwolf and Winchester 88 only came in 308 based calibers. Not sure on the Savage 99,but I don't think anything like the 270 was ever chambered in it. Next to the Browning BLR,the only other lever that ever used that lenght of ammo was the Winchester Model 95. I'm not positive but I do think some of the remakes of the Model 95 were available in 270.

There's always the .270 Savage:)

I am familiar with 270 for hunting only. I and everyone I hunt with use 270 or smaller on every hunt I have been on which is about 25 large game animals so far.....Very effective and yet a small diameter. Everything from coyotes to moose and elk.....including bear.

SO I know it is reliable. Also I am like a girl...I dont like recoil...lol....but I dont know if recoil is worse or same on 308 and in fact I dont know how much bigger the "bullet" is on a 308...i use the light weight grain in 270......

.308 and .270 recoil is very similar. 150's are light in a .308 and 180's would be considered heavy for the .308. There's also the .260 and 7mm-08 if you want a skinny bullet .308 based cartridge.

270Lever

You might wish to consider a 7mm-08. Almost as good as a 270 with no recoil. Very accurate. Browning make them in the BLR.

My daughter shoots one.

I bought my daughter a Browning lever action in a 308 a few years back. She has shot several deer and last year got her first moose. If I knew how to post I put up a picture, anyhow she is shooting 150 gr Hornady's and they seem to do the job very well. I was never a big 308 fam but I have been very impressed with both the rifle and the cartridge. Very little recoil, easy to use and more than enough stopping power, all in all it's been a great purchase for her.
