Help a fellow gun nut pick the right shotgun for him :)

Sup fellas. Looking to potentially enter the shotgun market. My biggest attraction is shooting trap with friends. But I also want a pump or a semi that is reliable and rugged. Not interested in blowing tons of cash on these fancy over-unders or double barrels that the old folks sport. ( no offence lol)

Looking for a shotgun that will be able to swap out chokes, reliable, easy to use for trap/skeet and obviously looks aesthetic and cool.

Right now I am fairly drawn to the benelli m4.

All comments welcome.
 
The 1st semi shotgun I was drawn to was the SX3 Winchester. I tried a friends out and I loved it. I then bought the Browning Maxus, it has an adjustable comb and length of pull, as well as removable chokes. The browning came with the whole kit of spacers, chokes and a case, but it was a little expensive at 1600 bucks.

You are probably gonna hear it a hundred times but I will say it too, with a shotgun you need to hold it, shoulder it and shoot it. Fit is the most important.

Well if you can afford the M4 you pretty much have your pick. I've shot sleep with Pump, over under Semi and mag fed. Mag fed will always turn heads but a Benelli m4 is a feared shotty but if I'm not mistaken is a fixed cylinder choke and can't accept Mobil chokes big issue in skeet.

For looks and turning heads id go mag fed for reliability and function with still a modernish look id go Benelli m2 or Super 90.

Going to need the barrel to accept different chokes for shooting trap and skeet though..
 
If you wanna shoot skeet, don't get a pump. Doubles are already the hardest part of skeet, and having to pump between shots doesn't help any.

As stated before, shotguns are all about fit. Go to the gun store, and tell them you want to check out their shotguns to see what fits you best. If there is a store that focuses on shotguns, that would be ideal because someone there should know a thing or two about proper fit. Alternatively a big box store employee won't know a thing about proper fit they'll be of no real use to you.

agreed. The local SAIL near me has plenty of shotguns and this old italian man who knows a thing or two ;)

might hit that up.

I shot my first round of skeet at 15 and bought my first O/U at 19, I am now 52. Double barrels are not an old mans gun. They are a knowledgeable man's gun and a true trap and skeet shooters gun. The fact you are posting in the black and green shotgun forum for a trap/skeet gun speaks to a lack of knowledge of the sport. No offence, lol
 
If I was looking for a pump my choice would be an 870 Police or Wingmaster - Even the older used ones are beautiful and the quality is superior I think. If I was pursuing a semi I would go Benelli all the way. I LOVE their M2 models. I have an M2 Tactical and just love it. Looking for a semi Id purchase the M2 field!
