Hi all. I'm sure I'm not the first to post this... but here goes.

I've been talking for years and finally went for it. Got my PAL and my CORE and hope to fill my freezer soon.
I'm not going to pretend to know much if anything because what's the point to that right?

I've gone and bought new what I think will work well for all I want to hunt.( Deer,Elk,Moose)

My name says it all Savage 7mm rem mag model 111. It came with a 4 dollar scope on it. What's my options here on a budget?
Best bang for the buck for a hunter wannabe on a budget of say.... $200-300

Is my best bet in the EE Optics here and get something good used?

Number of options on a budget to give you a good quality dependable scope:

1. Fixed powers are 'out of style' - BUT pick up a K4 or K6 Weaver. Good solid scopes for well under $200 per, new.
2. Burris FF II in 3x9. There will still be some new ones out there which you should get under $200. And some very good used ones for considerably less.

Sure there are other options but those two stick out

Having said that I would shoot the package scope for now. I picked up a package in 243 a few years ago with the cheap package scope. Packed it around in my old suburban ( under the seat) , and it held zero very well.

for that price range you could go into a new in the box lifetime warranty Vortex in either the crossfireII line or diamondback in a 3-9 power range or better.

Check out Dante a montreal retailer. They often have pretty decent scopes, at good prices on sale. I dont know if it still applies but they had a Bushnell 4200 3-9x40 on for 259 - 50 mail in rebate from Bushnell (rebate may be finished). Pretty good scope, new, for just over $200. Nothing stopping you from going to your local gun store and checking out different scopes, to be better informed on your EE purchase.

Would suggest you stick to known brands, most of those now match Leupold for warranty. I am not a big fan of chinese imports, in many cases you are not buying a scope, just renting one.

A decent Redfield or Bushnell Elite in will leave plenty of budget room for ammo to practise with, even more so if you keep an eye on the EE.

3-9x40

Cabela's has the Leupold VX-II Canadian (3-9x40) on sale for $299.99 ($100 off).

Other New: Redfield Revolution (front of list because of the Leupold backed warranty that will be fulfilled in Canada,) then in no particular order Bushnell Elite (discontinued 3200 series should be discounted if you can find one,) Vortex, Weaver V9Classic (not confident about their cheaper new Kaspa line.)

Used: Leupold (cheaper than new and the lifetime warranty is still valid if you bought it used, and it will be fulfilled in Canada by the distributor here.)

I don't mean you should ignore other Gunnutz's suggestions of other brands, just these are what I think I know enough about to recommend.
