I know nothing about 7.62x39 but I tend to agree here. I shoot cast squibs in 308 and they cost me 10 cents a pop : 5 cents for the primer and 5 cents of powder. How cheap are these (on sale) anyway?

I think I can reload 9mm cheaper than I can buy it for.

I bought 4500 once fired range brass off the EE for $100 which can be used multiple times. (Tossed a couple hundred during inspection).
1000 campro are about $100
1000 primers are $55
A pound of powder is $50ish and good for around 1700ish rounds at 4ish gr per charge.

How much is factory 9mm these days? StilI around $120/250 rounds? I think I'm loading for about half price.

Because you can load it for 150 and buy it for 250.

Haven't read the whole thread, lots of good advice here.

Reloading is in itself a hobby and very educational.

I load 7.62x39 for a single shot rifle and strive for accuracy. Bulk ammo for the mil sure.

12 / 20 gauge reloading to tailor the round for the "game" like gophers around the house and a bit softer round for wifey.

Manuals are great but there are videos available as well which are very instructive for the basics.

You can by a hand held press for doing rifle rounds, slow production but you can always use the hand held later for making up experimental loads at the range if you graduate to a bench mount.
 
I agree with most of the sentiments already shared for 12g and x39. BUT I do reload x39 as I can get s better round for hunting with. I purchased 1000 brass cases from T&R Reloading. Most will be converted to 6.5 grendel as it shares the same parent case. I'll keep 100 or so for hunting with my SKS but the main reason I reload is that I can do it making a better round cheaper than buying it for everything but x39 12g and .22 LR
