I like the scout rifle setup. Price is definitely a factor- the Savage’s price point would mean I can get a scope/rings too and it’d still be close to the price of just the Ruger. I used to have a Savage Precesion Carbine and liked it a lot, I was really impressed by the accutrigger.
I don’t want a real long rifle do to the local environment, so both the 18.5” and 16.5” are attractive options.
Ruger>Savage every time. Some find the scout to be aesthetically unusual, but it is a handy rifle which would do what you need with ease and is built tractor strong.

Cabela's also has an exclusive on the Ruger American Ranch in 308. Looks the same as the 450 Bushmaster model with a break.
