Get the ball rolling here. I already own an AR in 223. An amazing 12" Noveske with a bunch of goodies. Favorite points are the timney trigger, light and 1-4 nightforce NXS. I DONT WANT TO MESS WITH A GOOD THING.

Time for a second rifle... Why? Don't have one, I need one, why have one when you can have 2? Take your pick they all work. Here is my issue.

For a second rifle I want there to be the potential for 300blk. I'm sure many will say why not go with an XCR in 7.62x39. But I don't want to buy more mags. When I say more I mean different pattern for a different rifle. The more of my kit that can be swapped back and forth the better.

This can come down to almost an A or B..... Restricted vs non-restricted... Or even XCR vs ACR...

If I focus on 300blk performance I'm pretty sure the ACR is out already because it handguard is long enough to prevent a short barrel (9"-16") in the future. And I'm already in restricted territory due to the short barrel. If I'm wanting a short barrel rifle why not stick with the AR platform? I like the potential the XCR has for caliber swaps. And I got an email from Rob Arms saying that a 300blk conversion is hitting the market in coming months. Not sure if this will hit canada, or if it will even come true.

So let's break it down to basics.

AR has tons of aftermarket accessories and I can duplicate what I have in a different caliber quite easily. But straight out of the gate I'm restricted and when the RCMP come knocking not even Mike from Canmore can help me.

So let's consider non restricted options.

ACR vs XCR i think comes down to personal preference... Yesterday I was lucky enough to put the 2 side by side at a gun shop and spend 20 min picking each apart and comparing. I walked out with the impression the ACR had a few features I liked but was over priced for what it was. I liked the ar style pin disassembly but it wasn't as tight as my Noveske nor as tight of a upper/lower fit as the XCR. Both the ACR and XCR can be modded to share a similar fit and feel to my existing AR (stock, grip, Ect). Triggers in both sucked in my mind. Are there trigger mods for these? I haven't been able to find anything that compares to that of an AR platform. The joys of a light crisp trigger.

I would love for the rifle to be non restricted, but I want the performance of my AR. I'm looking for help to filter through some of the propaganda and hear about the performance of the XCR and ACR.

Guess this is a long initial post to simply ask..... Will or does the ACR or XCR compete with the AR? What can be done to help with the trigger?

Thanks guys

why not just get a 300 blackout upper to go with that sweet Noveske?, and it already has a timney trigger.

You can have the acr rebarreled in whatever caliber you please.
The acr is still not as good as a higher end ar, but it is certainly more accurate and better balanced than the xcr.

Putting a light profile barrel on the XCR L and M changes the balance substantially. As for accuracy, debatable IMHO. I have all three and honestly have not seen any real world difference out to 400 meters. With the XCRM and handloaded SMK 168gr, I am able to easily nail 12" steal out to 650 meters (with Elcan x1.5-6 optics).

Acr is only non restricted if you mod it. From what I know it's not cheap. Xcr is ready to go out of box. The price is good. Mine shoots awesome. I've gone through 3 surplus boxes already in one year. Nothing jammed or had any issues. Great gun and my favourite in my cabinet.

If you want to switch caliber an ACR is best; it can do that in about 30 seconds if you have 2 barrel assy. You could even switch it from restricted to non-restricted back and forth if you're willing to wait for the paperwork everytime...
Get a Geissele super ACR trigger for it and You're set.
if a dedicated 300blk SBR is what you're looking for tho, just get a 2nd upper for that sweet noveske.

I recently purchased my first AR, a DD M4V3 and since have decided I need an ACR. I've handled an XCR-L and M and while they are alright I would rather have the ACR. I'm a lefty and the ability to change the charging handle to the ejection side is what sold me.

Is there a 7.5" barrel option for the ACR? I've been looking at the XCR micro as well.

No, 9" is as short as you can currently go with the existing gas system.
It makes absolutely zero sense to go with a sub 18.5" barrel on an xcr or acr though. If you're going restricted anyways, a high end ar is a much better rifle, in every way, than either xcr or acr.

But for Ar15, you can not change between 18.6" barrel and the shorter barrels.

This comment is one of the best I have read when the topic of the XCR versus whatever comes up. Fair and consice. I own and love my XCR-L, but if I was a lefty, I am sure I would want the ACR for the same reason.
