Guys- I need some serious help.

I was tearing down the AR15 for some weekly cleaning/inspection, when I thought "I'll inspect the buffer spring & tube".

Took it out, everything is fine, but when I went to put everything back in the buffer tube detent fumbled in my hand and fell into the hole the wrong way.

After a few select curses, I tried a few things, but I can't seem to get it out.

Anyway of getting this out?
I tried a screwdriver, but to no avail, and I was short on time, as I was heading out the door in ten minutes, so I haven't tried much else.

If- for some strange reason the collective knowledge of CGN can't help me get it out to put it back in the right way- what else can be used in place of the detent?

A small dowel of some sort with 2 way tape or putty should work..Even an oversized dowel whittled down so it jams into the open end of the detent should work. After that, a liberal application of C4.

Thanks for the pro tip. Will try.

EDIT: The dowel- not the C4. Not planning o blowing myself up anytime soon.

How do you mean, it fell in the wrong way? Why would you remove the detent to take out the buffer and spring?

pictures?

you can try threading a bolt into it and pulling it out "you will need a new buffer detent after :("

Might try that as a last resort. Maybe its just luck that I have another lower on the way that I could steal parts from, and put better parts in the incoming lower.

Run it without the detent. Other than that, turn the receiver upside down and smack it on your couch till it falls out.

Yup.
Turn the lower upside down, and give it a sharp bump upwards. Repeat. This might dislodge the detent. Use something non-marring, even the heel of a shoe might work, if you don't have a non-marring hammer.
If this doesn't work, the hollow end of the detent is facing out. Whittle a square taper on the end of a little piece of wood, see you can't twist this into the hole, and pull the detent out.
Crazy glue might be an idea, along with the stick, but DON'T get any between the detent and the lower.
The detent shouldn't be in all that tight - it slides up and down in there - it should come out.
Unless the walls of the hole get scratched.

Heat up the receiver a bit. Round the hole. Aluminum will expand / shrink alot quicker than the steel detent.

THEN beat it off the couch :D

might want to cut that weekly cleaning and inspection back to monthly observing and reporting fella!

I was thinking the same thing. There is no reason to tear your rifle down that far to clean. However, it is your rifle.

If the magnet didn't work try using the eraser end of a pencil. Lightly shave the eraser to fit snugly into the detent and rotate it a bit as you pull it out.

There has got to be something more at play here,it should not be tight fit at all.

Anyhow, This has worked for me for other small parts I have had to extract from difficult places. Tahe a plastic syringe and place it over the hole or into the back end of detent in your case and apply vaccuum. It some times helps to put a bead of silicone on the tip and let it set up overnite and trim to fit in the morning(helps create a little better seal).
