Help buying first shotgun!

I've hunted my mossy for over ten years and never had any probelms, went and bought a Benelli super nova this season. Love it! I'm still not convinced I can shoulder it as fast but you can't beat the corrosion resistant finish. It also doesn't rattle your skull as much when shooting 3.5 inchers.
 
If you are looking for a top notch shotgun pump, I would go with a Benelli Nova or Supernova. They will take 2.75", 3" and 3.5" shells so you're ready for your waterfowland upland hunting. You won't find a better, tougher shotgun that will last you a lifetime in any weather conditions.

I have tried the 870 and 5 series Mossy and neither compares with Benelli. I work in Law Enforcment and we use the 870. Great gun for security but when you try a Benelli, you realize the instant difference. Looks like you have the Deer and Moose gun already.
 
Heroldm, I am in the exact same boat as you: never bought a shotgun and looking for some insight. My conclusion after a few days of posting and trolling is that no one is going to point you to the exact shotgun you want that is coincidentally within your price range. Some will say forget about the price and endorse the Benelli M4, possibly because shooting is their raison d'etre. Understandable. Others will point you to the Mossberg 590s and Remington 870s and make a case for value. Still others will tell you to grab a Norinco just to see if you even like shooting shotguns and have a use for it. Opinions abound. Thus my advice, from one novice to another, determine your needs (yes, tacticool may be a 'need' for you as it is for me) and use that knowledge to structure your questions here. Also, avoid using the internet as a justifier rather than an informer. And, above all, remember we're just a bunch of people on the internet - while most people on the net profess to have the super esoteric knowledge you need, more often than not it is founded on anecdotal information.

alright thanks a lot guys, i actually went to lebarons today to check some out... unfortunately the guy was kind of a dink and wasn't very helpful but ill have to go somewhere else.
