Ok here it is. I want one bad, but it seems there are so many different ones in so many different price ranges. I'm looking to spend the least amount on the SKS but don't want a piece of junk either. What should I look for in an SKS ?

Some Chinese commercial rifles leave a lot to be desired.
Any genuine military service rifle will be fine.
If price is the issue, look for the least expensive surplus ones.
If you want to pay a bit more, get one of the unissued Russian or Chinese rifles.

It's a hit or miss Chinese are suppose to be more accurate some of the time and have some better steel components. Sks d rifles are neat they take an ak detachable mag. Good luck finding a mag though. I want red liners sks it's got a ar pistol mag way cool. However there are none for sale right now. I like the norinco sks but there stocks are horrid in terms of finish. Tapco or arc angel stocks or maybe a strike force stock will fix and tactic cool it up cheers.

Cannot go wrong with the Chinese Military one from MARSTAR .I got the the deal with the case and t-shirt for $199.99. It is very nice and shoots great you will not be sorry and they are great to deal with.

Wholesale sports 170 bucks, works fine with better ammo. I find it hard to trust they havent been shot, how can there be powder on some claiming new if not shot. Some are almost double the coat that claim not shot

In all honesty, SKS prices are as cheap as they're gonna get. If you can't afford 200 bucks on a rifle, you've got the wrong hobby. Ammunition is the greater cost IMO. If you just want a shooter, get a refurb. Collector pieces cost more money but don't shoot any better.

Also the Tradex SKS came with hardly any cosmo to clean off which is worth a ton in time spent on the other guys guns.......

I have ordered several guns several times from Tradex and never been dissapointed.

As far as ammo goes, Wolverine's $199/1200 crates are the best deal I could find.

I got my Tradex SKS, and my crate for only a few bucks more than the deal from Marstar, as shipping skyrockets the price of Marstars deal.

If you want to go even cheaper you could get one of Tradex's standard refurb SKS's at $169.

Wiemajack on the EE here has some really nice ones for sale

Just ordered one from Wiemajack. Finally an unissued unrefurb for me :D I have at least one from Westrifle ('49) Happy with that one. I have 2 Chinese. (came with the ammo deals) One is great. Love it. Felt bad after I shot it, maybe should have left it unfired. The other Chinese one, Im gonna get rid of. Definite difference in quality. Have a couple others (refurbs) I have no issues with them either.... So I'd say, go find a $150-200 Russian refurb and go from there....

Thanks guys. Marstart is local for me so i'll take that option another thing though. Is the ammo easy to find or do I have to buy crates of it ?

You can not go wrong with Marstar's SKS's, They are NOS. You do not have to pay more than $200.00 for a SKS. Don't get caught up with all the hype of unissued, numbers matching, hand picked, Museum quality ect ect ect.

Marstar sks is $189 + shipping and tax... Westrifle is $240 includes shipping + tax... depends what part of the country you live.. shipping could be $30+.. I figure the difference to be $21..... Both rifles of respective origin are Unissued Military... I think it boils down to personal preference and if you want to spend the difference of what it costs for a case of beer.
