So I've looked on here with no success and Bing hasn't found me anything either. So I'm asking here as many of you have done these matches and know how they are setup.

My question is, could a PRS match be held on a F-class type range? I'm sure it may not be the ideal setup, but we do have beautiful long distance ranges in the provinces that sit unused on some weekends. Our particular range is in a pasture and vehicles are allowed to drive the range freely giving shooters the freedom to setup anywhere they wish.

I'd like those of you with real PRS range experience to think about this with an open mind as I hope an opportunity can be had here but then again I have no idea what is absolutely required for these matches.

Thanks for your help folks!

I may not be a true PRS expert but I think you could run a PRS type match at a square range. The two matches I ran each had ~20 competitors and was run on a range that only has 8 benches (I think). You may have to get creative with stage design to make things run smoothly/quickly but I think it can be done.

It sounds like the set up you have could work quite well.

As for an official PRS match I think they require you to attend a official PRS match to run one.

Could you post or PM me any info on how you setup the match? I'm hoping the fact that the range we use is open land, lends itself to working out for these matches.

You could give people a flavor of the matches. You can certainly run some of the skills stages (1 and 2), although range control may limit you to prone shooting. The gallery ranges here in ON would not allow barricades to be brought on the line, but the guys in BC can.

The PRS would not likely sanction an official event on a gallery range as engaging targets at different distances in the same string of fire is a big part of the match. If it has berms at different distances, it is workable. A single butts... not so much.

Known distance isn't really the issue. It's only being able to shoot at one distance at a time. There are always some stages at matches that are only one distance. But, most are multiple distances. It changes things a lot, especially under time.

Arc-of-fire can be another issue. If you can only shoot in one target lane, that really limits you. Often in matches, you have a 90 degree arc-of-fire (45 degrees left and right), sometimes more.

Ugh... yeah, you won't be able to run an official match on it. But, you could do a match as long as they will let you bring stuff onto the lines so it isn't just prone and a few off-hand stages.

I'm hoping that bringing obstacles onto the range should not be a problem. All shots being fired into the backstop would be a must.

So an official match sounds like it would be out of the question, at least for now. But an unsanctioned fun match is possible with our layout.
