Help! Cleaning rod got stuck

I would shine light down the barrel to see if you see any light out the other end. It sounds like you have a whole bullet stuck down there not lead build up.

Blindeyes - Before I attempted to clean the gun, I did shine a light down the barrel and it wasn't completely blocked.

mmattockx - Thanks for the replies. I'm no metallurgy expert so I'm a bit cautious/weary about just heating up the barrel. According to SAAMI specs, a 22lr will generate 24000 PSI, that's higher than many pistol cartridges such as the 45ACP(21000PSI).

Do not heat a steel barrel with aluminum rod inside aluminum will get softer then the steel in that heat and could get more stuck. If u just taped it in put a rod of ether aluminum or wood in smaller size so not to get another one stuck in the other end and tap it back out then inspect with a light after cleaning with a smaller rod to see if u have any damages inside.

Wow! What was it shooting like before you cleaned it? Any signs of excess pressure?

The lead "slugs" shown in the picture was originally deposited all along the barrel walls, it wasn't the one solid chunk you're seeing. My constant ramming of the crud compacted it into the slugs you see...

I shot about 1100 rounds that range session. I fired 200 rounds of CCI blazers first, followed by 250 rounds of Winchester wildcat and the rest was Remington thunderbolt. The last 10 rounds where CCI stingers,

It shot like crap around the 800 round mark, I had bullets keyhole at 5 yards. I'm not sure if there was excessive pressure; during the last 100 rounds, there was an excessive amount of smoke from the muzzle and it started getting very quiet.

Did you have any bulged or ruptured cases?

It getting quiet is interesting...Keyhole at 5 yards!:D

well, without the picture I would have said a big giant BS to you, but holy lead....wouldn't have believed it if not for your photo.

I too am very surprised....any experts out there who have seen this before?

D

1100 rounds? Your barrel must have been getting very hot to melt that much lead into the rifling.

I have a Cooey 600 that must have at least 50 000 rounds through it and I might have cleaned it 10 times in my life.

I've never seen anything like it. I guess there is "too much of a good thing"

I've got a savage mk II that i just cleaned for the 1st time since it's initial cleaning when i bought it (14 years ago or so).. it had over 20 000 rounds through it i'm sure. still shot great no problems at all, i was bored and cleaned it... the 3rd patch through came out clean.... I'm not sure how you managed to do that, but bravo I bow to you lol.

Trust me, this is very unusual/scary for me too. Prior to this incident, I've put over 1200 rounds through in another range session and there wasn't the slightest hint of leading.

I was not rapid-firing the gun, it was more of a medium-fire, about 1 round per 2-3 seconds. I had a wet j-cloth to damp the barrel when it got hot so I doubt the leading is caused by barrel heat...

This is a picture of one of the slugs after I crushed it open:

holy lead! when I run out of lead for casting, I'll clean your barrel(s) for free :D

now seriously, you have to burn some elbow grease scrubbing that barrel.
Get a couple of stiff brushes and get to it.

Man, thats mucked up, id plug the ends and fill it with nitro and leave for a day or two, do some serious brushing and probably repeat. fill her up with oil for a day and do a normal cleaning would want to clean the action too!!
Good luck and please be careful your case of lead fouling is the worst ive seen
