Gentlemen, I am new to the 1911 game, and would like to purchase one. I am not a new shooter and have a few must haves, such as beavertail, and three dot sights. An angled magwell would be nice, not necessarily one of the huge add ons but if the magwell itself is angled that would be great. I have narrowed down the huge field to a couple of choices. A dan wesson Razor back, or a Kimber Custom II or I may go all out and get a custom tactical. I am interested in checking out a Taurus as a friend of mine has one and loves it, but I cannot find any. He lives in the States so I cannnot just go see it. Which would you pick?

I would pick the Razorback over the kimber, but that might just be me :)

You should have a look at the Springfield Loaded or offering from Colt.

There are often some pretty nice deals in the EE, you should check it out!

Oh don't worry, I have been trolling the EE. I am not really interested in anything that has been modified. Bone stock is good, that way if it doesn't work I know it is not something that has been changed.

I'll vote for a 1911 Kimber ..........

+1 on the Kimber. Have shot my Custom TLE/RL II not only with factory loads but with my 200 gr. SWC which I mold. This baby eats them all with no FTF's. The only thing I did was add a mag-well, Hogue grips and a Wilson comp. flat main spring. She shoots like a dream and can group admirably in rapid from 25 mtrs. Its a great shooter. You won't regret it. BTW, would'nt have bought it if Wolfstck did'nt let me try out his pretty Custom II stainless - that shooting session made me a believer!!!

As a sidenote, also have a Dan Wesson Pointman 7 which shoots just as good, but it did have a gunsmith do the trigger work. Build quality is just as good as the Kimber (if not better) but the latter is great - right out of the box!!!!

I would avoid the Taurus and the Kimber. I personally feel both offer possible QC issues and poor performance. To bad as the Kimbers make a nice looking gun. If you want to spend less than 1K I would get a Norc and add the parts you want. If money is not object I would go Wilson, Les Baer, Ed Brown sort of thing. Springfield I like but they are not the Springfield of times past...

Have you though about buying something used?

Purchase

I have been looking for something used, I want something unmodified. For some reason the 1911's are in short supply right now.

Twig, all my current 1911's were bought used from EE. Took months to land the right ones but they are out there so keep looking!!! Good luck and post what you finally get.

Armco on top of the page has some new noinco's 1911's factory with there polish and tweak touch for a great price. He also has some beautiful trade in's as well on the used page. I find 2 of them very tempting.

Purchase

I finally took the plunge and purchased a Kimber Tactical custom II. I think the deciding factor was the fact my wife was handling it and told me to "buy this one". Who am I to argue? If she takes it over, I will just have to pick up a Dan Wesson. I will post some pics once I receive it. Thanks for the help
