Help! Difficulty with Nork 1911

Just got my two tone Nork 1911 in the mail today. I was pretty excited until I tried to disassemble it for cleaning...and I emphasize tried. I could not for the life of me remove the slide stop from the frame. I have little circles pressed into my thumbs from trying, and couldn't get it to budge with a punch. Also, at that point I noticed the mag release sticking out a good 1/4 inch from the frame...is that normal on the new Norks? Has anyone else had similar problems? Any advice, solutions or tips on what worked for you?
 
I'm assuming you KNOW how to field strip a 1911?

You need to line up the slide stop with the little cuts by pulling back on the slide. Also, you need to remove the bushing first.

I'm guessing you know that, but you never know... :)

Yes, the bushing is off, but I just tried it again for the hell of it and out it came; easy as pie...and I realize now the source of my difficulty! In my haste to get it apart and play with it, I lined the slide stop up with the LOCK notch:redface: and after getting impatient with it, I didn't bother to check and make sure that I hadn't done something as dumb as that:redface:...oh well...live and learn!

I have two in my possession already...never had to struggle like this before, but, as I pointed out above, my haste made me overlook the obvious and assume that something was amiss!

I used a brass punch in the mistaken belief that the rounded button of the lever was an extremely tight fit for the hole...however, as I have admitted, mine was an error of haste compounded by the omission of checking to see if I had done something incorrectly...:redface:rest assured I am suitably chastened.
 
Now that the embarrassing part is out of the way...I have to say that the fit of the new Norks is excellent! It locks up tight as a drum and there don't seem to be any loose tolerances between parts...it's a lot tighter than the fit on my other older Nork, my circa 1919 Colt, and a Remington Rand I had a few years back...looks good too! I hope to hit the range over the next couple of days to give it a try...and yes, I know the round ends point to the front;)
 
yup,on these norcs the guide rod fits inside a hollow plug.
on the original 1911a1's,the plug is capped (covered and knurled).
the norcs are a bit of a pain to remove the spring/bushing/plug.
i had trouble w/ the disconnector/sear and the left ambi. safety but i resolved those problems...
