I just reloaded some ammo for my Garand using 165gr Hornady SSTs and IMR4064 to take with with me when I'm doing a crop claim on a "bear heavy" ranch on Friday. I see those suckers in the bush every time I'm out there, incl sows with cubs, and I just can't run as fast as I used to.
This rifle has one of the Marlin contract barrels which were supplied to the US Army as replacements in the early 1950s. Somehow using a Garand with a barrel from a sporting rifle maker seems appropriate in this case.
I'm going to carry an extra clip in my pocket in case of a mass charge when the bears hear the "pling" of the first empty en bloc being ejected.
