My SW model 12 revolver has stopped functioning in double action. It works fine in single action but in double action, the cylinder revolves but the hammer does't come back.

Once every 4 or 5 tries, the revolver functions normally in double action, once or twice and then reverts to the above described malfunction.

I took off the side plate and there didn't appear to be any obviously broken parts.

Does anyone know what is wrong with my snubby?

Does anyone know of a good SW dealer or gunsmith that I could take it to in the Lower Mainland?

Try taking the side plate off and oiling the internal parts, I have a model 15 snubby that used to bind on me so I lubed it and it works fine now. I just used some thin spray gun oil on it.

I'm no expert, but it sounds like wear either the hammer cocking notches or the sear that pushes it back. when you pull the trigger right back, the hammer lifts but doesent move far enough to the rear to drop? The other culprit could be crud in the works blocking the movment of the hammer or rebound block. What happens if you pull the trigger right back, hold it there, then thumb #### the hammer?

When I pull the trigger, the cylinder revolves to the next chamber and locks in place, the hammer only comes back about 1-2mm and then drops forward into the firing position.

When I pull the trigger back, hold it there and then thumb ####, the hammere comes back but does not lock at full #### if I keep the trigger pulled. If I realease the trigger with the hammer thumbed back, the hammer locks at full ####.

This malfunction comes and goes now. Sometimes I can double action dryfire 6 - 10 times, no problem, then I can feel some resistance in the double action trigger pull, it functions but the next time the malfunction is back.

It sounds very much like someone has mucked with the sear or hammer to lighten the pull/engagment and over did it and now it has worn out. Pop off the side plate, dis-assemble and look at the notches on the hammer and on the sear, if they are chipped or rounded that is your problem and the solution is replacement:(
