Help - Dry firing Mossberg 590?

I’ve been cycling some snap caps through my new 590A1 and notice that when I dry fire (usually by accident), the action remains stuck in the forward/closed position. The action release button is still depressed after firing, but I can’t pull back the action.

I eventually figured out that giving the gun a shake will allow me to open the action, but I’m not sure why this works as there is no noticeable effect of shaking it (no sounds, no internal movement, etc.).

Is this normal, or is there a known reason for this happening?

It’s happening only after all the snap caps are out if the gun.

I lose count of the number of snap caps, close the action after the last one is ejected, and fire thinking there’s one in the chamber.

Good news is that I can’t seem to replicate the problem.

Thanks for letting us know - Break in issue, you probably wouldn't have had it if you were firing live ammunition.

I think you’re right. Went to the range tonight and fired live ammo, 25 buck and 25 slugs. I had no issues.

The recoil drops the action block from the recess it is locked in also you can dry fire without snap caps it will not be damaged while doing this
