English Percussion Boxlock - circa 1830 - .40 Calibre
This gun belongs to a fellow from work. He purchased it from a collector that found it in the 60's. It was appraised 25 years ago at $650. Does anyone out there know about this gun maker or what this gun was used for? Any thoughts as to value for insurance purposes?

Nice little turn-off boxlock pocket pistol. Moore was rather prolific, whether his shop made it or retailed it, I couldn't say. Might be London made, or might be Birmingham made. A London address was more stylish.
$650, twenty five years ago sounds a bit high.

Back in the 70's and 80's there was a lot more disposable income and taxes were very low compared to now. Many collectables were higher priced then than they are now. All collectables fluctuate according to taste and other factors.

Many items can be worth less than one paid for them decades ago. This may be such a case. I estimate this one is worth about $900 retail today.

It's a nice pocket pistol, and in great condition, but I would be surprised if you would find a buyer willing to pay $650 for it.
Basic English pocket pistols often sell for $250. This one is very nice and should bring a more, but I doubt a buyer would pay several times that for it.
