I have a good friend that has a beautiful Winchester 1890 .22 Short Serial 520### (1915 DOM) that is missing the breech bolt, I am trying to find one for him.

The rifle was his uncles and his uncle had taken the bolt out at some point for storage then lost it. Anyway my good friend has teenage boys and needs to get this bad boy running and not collecting dust on the wall. Better a functioning family heirloom to have some fun with!

I have been looking at these breech bolts and they are hard to find! There seems to be 3 types mentioned by sellers, and I think this is the Standard 3rd type although I cant remember if it had external locking lugs, can anyone help me identify the type that this rifle would need?

Also what are the legalities of buying a breech bolt from the US? Anybody know where I can get one of these bolts? I tried Western Gun Parts without success.

Thanks and here is a pic

I forgot to mention , if you do find one , make sure that it is not a bolt for a WRF model . Many WRF's were parted out due to the problem of ammo availability and the bolt would not be compatible with your short model . Watch carefully . I'll look through my cache of parts just in case .

Hey Thanks for the tips guys... I would really like to get this rifle going... I will look out for the 22 WRF model...

Further to the story the Uncle had found the bolt while cleaning up the garage years ago and forgot that he had given the gun to his nephew and did not know where the gun had ended up, so he just threw it out!

I did find a bolt for a Rossi 62 which is cloned off the Winchester platform . I'll try it in a Winchester receiver to see if it will work . May be a week or so before I can get to it though.

Dint jpc have a few parts for these in the EE?
Might be worthy of a p.m. to him.?

Thanks kamlooky, it looks like it was just carrier and hammer parts.

I went to this web site : http:// ww w.leeroysramblings.com/Gun%20parts%20illustrations/winchester_M1890_06_62_illustrated.html[/url]

And it says that the breech bolt is interchangeable with 22 S, L, and LR, also it says that it is interchangeable with the model 1906 as it has the same part number.

In searching for a 1906 breech bolt I have found one online in the US. Since this part is ITAR regulated, what is the process to bring it north? Contact irunguns or prophet river and have it shipped to their US address and let them bring it over?
