I've got an SP-01 and last night my Kadet .22lr conversion kit arrived. I see now where there needs to be a little grinding to get it to fit but I want to make sure I'm doing it right first. There is a tab on each side of the front of the slide that needs to be ground down a bit.

I need to grind the bottom of those tabs up so that they will fit inside the guide rails on the frame, right?

I used a small file and a diamond stone to fit mine....I think I had to reduce the depth of the rail not the width.

Mine wasn't even close,I had to file to correct the width and depth, take your time, use calipers,file/fit/file/fit!
Thanks guys. I'll resist the urge to bust out the Dremel. Could either of you take a closeup picture of the end result on the slide?

oh nice, the kadet conversion. do they have a rimfire catagory for ipsc here?
No they don't, but I've been putting two to three hundred rounds down range per week so it's getting pretty pricey. This should be a good way to make practicing cheaper. The reloaded 9mm I've been shooting costs me about $.20 per round and .22lr is around $.03 per round. I figure it'll take about 10 weeks for the savings to pay off the price of the conversion.

I'm good at justifying new toys. :)

sigh…your reasoning is leading me to believe that i'll somehow be saving money by getting a semi 22 pistol. I don't even have a centerfire pistol to begin with! curses. off to the EE to see if i can find anything.

....doesn't hurt to put some masking tape around the areas you don't want to remove while you are slowly removing what you want to remove...

Go slow!

Check your progress, repeat till it fits nice. :)

Success! Thanks for the help guys.

I ended up having to file some material off of the side and bottom of what the manual calls "B surfaces". The key for me was to keep a close eye on the masking tape to make sure I wasn't rubbing through it where I didn't want to be.

Nice work!
The masking tape helps eh...a little cold blue on the white metal won't hurt.
I think you are going to enjoy the Kadet conversion....Happy shooting!

You won't regret having the Kit. Mine is scary accurate, in fact darn near unbelieveable. I am not sure the kit helps a whole bunch for practice. Some feel the light, read, no recoil can in grain bad habits. That aside, it sure as heck is fun.

Take Care
