Help for first optic

I just buy a savage 10TR (308) and I need a optic for it. I plan to shoot at 100m range, maybe casually under 500m (even less). I feel 9x is just not that much at 100m range. I guess something around 4 low and 16 high power would be enough? I plan to pay under $350.

I've spotted some interesting scope in that price range.
Burris Droptine 4.5-14x42 for $289 free shipping. It's first focal plan (+). Non critical eye relief (+). 40MOA adjustment.
Bushnell Ultra HD 4.5-14x44 for $350 free shipping. Comes with lens shade (+). 55 MOA adjustment.
Bushnell Ar Optics 4.5-18x40 for $270. Magnification range (+), .223 reticule for .308(-, the .308 one reticule seems hard to find on stock). 25 MOA adjustment (-)
Vortex Crossfire II 4-16x50 for $319 free shipping (one remaining, usually with 400$). 50 MOA adjustment.

Do I really need to bother with max elevation adjustment under 500m?

I want input from you guys or any other scope suggestion.
 
I'm gonna tell you to skip all the ones you mentioned and have a serious look at the Nikon line up.
I did that recently and for the under 1000.00 scopes, I'll be going there first everytime.
Nikon's Spot On website is a big plus too. Check it out before you buy a bushnell, burris or vortex.
 
I fully agree here, I've not owned a Nikon yet, but having seen them, plus owned the others mentioned. Take a serious look at Nikon.

For 100 yard shooting you dont need a super high power magnification scope. And at longer ranges glass quality will be more important than high magnification anyways.

A 3-9 or 4-12 is all you need, at which point you are right on the money with the 2.5-10x Prostaff.

If you really want to get into long range shooting, your budget has to go wayyyyyyyyyy up from $350 for a scope...

If you feel that 9x isn't enough magnification at 100m I suggest you walk forward 99 metres and fix bayonet. Or maybe just use a knobbly club.
 
No I'm not good at posting links. BUT reliable gun is a CGN dealer with a banner add at top of forum that takes you to their website. They did have some of the better pricing on Nikon stuff.
 
If you're not going to spend the $$$ Id suggest not buying a scope with high power,,its pointless as most times on high power its not clear. If your planning on shooting max 500 a good 3-9x40 or 2.5-10x44, its not gonna make you tacticool but you will have better glass. Id look at a Fixed 10x Bushnell with turrets if its a target gun, they sell for cheap and guys use them out to 1000 yards with .308's

I exaggerated a little bit on this one, but I meant I like to have a little more extra when it comes to magnification.

I'm learned there was a civil shooting club 100-600m at CFB 10km away from home. I guess a good 4-16x would be nice for it. I found a Viper Diamondback HP 4-16x42 V-Plex online for $360 ($100 off) at GrouseRiver. From what I've gathered, the optical quality is about the same of Viper series on the Diamondback HP (same coating technologies), which is a step above regular Diamondback. Turrets are more like the regular Diamondback,upgraded, but not like the one found on the Viper. The parallax adjustment is on side like on the Viper series.
