I normally let the bolt sit submerged in Varsol, to dissolve the sticky crap that is everywhere. I have never tried brakekleen but you must get the crap out of the firing pin bore in the bolt/breech block.

I did figure out how to remove the bolt. Everything seems to really come apart easily now. I went to Canadian Tire, but they don't carry Brake Kleen. So I picked up another brand of release spray. I sprayed the firing pin a lot. The pin seemed to move much better. I won't really be able to tell if it worked until I fire the gun. If I still have problems with misfires I will try the soaking in Varsol suggestion. Thanks a lot guys, I really appreciate the help.

If your mags have been pined at 5 rather than 5.5(that the right way to do even though not many people care to do it right), then you will not be able to seat the full 5rd mag with bolt closed. Try aia 10rd mag.
Most of the feeding issues on m14 m1a m305 are caused by faulty mags.
2 rd burst fire are usually caused by sticky sear, that means you should clean and grease the trigger group too.

I think the trigger is similar to the Garand. If you have good trigger control it's quite easy to make Garand fire more than once. This is very common according to my friend in the USAMU, when I had this problem. One needs to lighten up the grip a bit so that the finger goes past the firing point more easily.
I would clean it, take the piston out and clean the housing properly. Make sure the piston slides easily and makes a pop sound when you pull it out. That means its tight and creates a vaccum effect. I like to polish my gas pistons, no lube.
I would also take out the firing pin and clean it like everyone says but i also like to polish it. I like watching the pin freely pop its facein and out as well as in the rear where the hammer strikes it.
I also like to make sure that my gas holes are lined up, i do this by simply putting a thin toothpick thru the gas holes and making sure it goes into the barrel.
I also like doing trigger jobs on m14s, its such an easy design, and a little 1000 grit sandpaper with a dremmel polish will take out all the grit on the pre travel , and stone the sear hammer for a glass like break.
I also dont put any grease on it for the first 100 rounds, i use light oil till all the shavings of metal to metal come out. After its broken it, ill use small amounts of white grease. My brothers m305 had an extra tight fitting piston, the barrel was no index properly and i had to polish the feed ramps, especially the right side. Its like butter now

The gun works great now. I took it to the range and there was no issues with it. Other than my son doing another double fire. However, we figured it was him, not the gun. I bought a couple of 30 round magazines and they slide in and out so much easier than the 5 round mag. My problems seem to be resolved. Thanks everyone for the tips, it was very much appreciated.

THe above posts are good advise however I found with my new out of the box Norinco M305 I also had double taps. This can be caused by a variety of defects, including a stacking error, mine was caused by a worn and soft metal hammer spring shroud. Had it replaced with a G.I. and all is good now. Weapon also now passes the hammer following test.
